Help!
I currently live in Staten Island, and in the 5 boroughs of NY you need to possess a rifle/shotgun permit or a pistol permit in order to have one of those weapons in your possession/house.
I will be moving to NJ next month and wanted to know what the rules where for owning a rifle/shotgun in the state of NJ. Do you have to register them? Do you have to have a rifle/shotgun permit? Etc...
Thanks

A big YEP. What town you moving too? Some are worse than others. Go to the records dept at the police station. Ask for the firearms ID card application. It takes about 8 weeks to do. You have to get finger printed and photographed. I think its $50 for all the Bullsh*t.
Good luck.

Has to be where you reside.
Good luck..Took me 2 months just to change my address on mine. Your drivers license and firearm ID Card must have matching addresses to purchase. I'm not too far from ya.

Just to make sure you don't misunderstand. In NJ you need a firearms I.D card to purchase firearms. I don't recall the exact meaning, look it up yourself at NRA state info site, but if you should move to New jersey and not have the card yet, I think you may still keep the guns as long as you know you would qualify for a card and are in process of getting I.D card. It is not the same as NYC in that you DO NOT have to register firearms in NJ. You don't need permit for each gun etc. If you were to have your F.I.D card you will not have to take each gun or register each gun with the police. You don't have to tell them anything about your guns. They only thing the card is used for is to purchase firearms, not as a license for possession in your home(again check laws) like NYC. I believe in NYC they require you to register each gun and pay a fee for each individual firearm, but you probably know. Welcome to NJ.

Whatever happened to the 2nd amendment in those two states? It's a good thing that you're asking CH, you are obvioulsy a concerned citizen...Let's just hope all the criminals are obtaining those same permits.

Its written in a foreign language cyclone...I wish I knew! It seems the law changes weekly here in NJ. A bill was passed approving "Smart Gun Technology" just recently...The technology does not even exist yet!
