NY Wild Boar

Found this article on another forum. Quite dissappointing news. Does anyone in any other states have wild boars? If so, what do you think of them? Any help is appreciated.

Troutman,
I shot one this year. They are getting out of hand. Haven't seen any this deer season, but the bait will be ready for Jan. so I can have me some pork on the BA-BE

I huntS.E. Cortland Co., and was wondering if these hogs would make it down my way eventually. I wouldn't mind sticking a arrow in one sometime! But def. hate to see them overrun a woods. There's NO season on them, its yr. around game. If they hit my woods it'd give my wife more reason to complain about me spending more time hunting!!:D

I haven't seen any in Southern Madison County yet -

I kind of hope I do - While I wouldn't wish it on the farmers - I don't see it as anything but a good thing for me - unless they run deer out of the area?

I would like to see wild pigs here in Pa. Something for me to harvest and save some bucks on meat. I actually prefer ham over turkey. But it would be nice other than how fast they breed. They would dominate and destroy our animals food supplies. Not good for our wildlife here I do have to say. They eat anything they find.

I read that they can eat fawns and turkey eggs. That kinda sucks. I wouldn't mind shooting a family or two.

I wonder if there is any truth to the rumor that they are escapees from the "wildlife preserve" in Homer?

I heard the same thing.I live in Chenango County but I work in Cortland and some co-workers were telling me about the pigs.Is there any state land around that area? I would love to come up there and "give the DEC a hand" with the pig problem!!!

I believe that is where it started. There is another location where they said that the pigs got loose, but can't confirm for sure. I did confront the outfitters from Cold Brook at the Syracuse sports show 2-3 yrs ago with a pic from my game cam and they had no comment on the subject. Ont he other hand I didn't expect them to admit to it since the pigs are causing ten's of thousands of dollars worth of damage. Oh well, It's just anotheranimal I get to hunt year round.

Is there anyone on this forum that needs help hunting the Hogs around Cortland County? Or is it a rare occasion that you see one? I'd love to come over there and drop one. While it's not good for the farmers to see them around here they are a blast to hunt. I used to hunt them in GA when I lived there. If we could hunt them up here year round it would keep me busy for sure.

ya great we get to hunt them and not have to go south...but these arent a joke try hitting a 400 pound animal with a car? theyll eat anything...literally

and vanillathunder while there is said to be a feww hundred they do move around alot so its tough to strictly hunt them at this point in time

I have heard of only a handful being shot this year in Cortland. I would love to take one with my new 30-30. If anyone needs a hand thinning the herd, let me know. I'm only 30min away. Cold Brook Hunts is the preserve where they most likely escaped from. They charge $600 for a boar hunt. Sounds outrages to me.http://www.coldbrookhunts.com/coldbrookhunts-hunts.html
