Newton,I can do what you say for free. Why should I pay for it, if it isn't about seeing deer?

Why don’t all you that chastise and belittle Slimshady concern for the deer numbers in his area go and hunt his spots? all I ever hear is hunt harder, scout more, hunt deeper or the always mindless comment your not seeing deer because its to warm or we don’t have snow so that’s why your not seeing deer. Well supporters of HR you have one year to prove him wrong. Get off your lease and get out from behind the yellow posted signs and prove you can do better than him when it’s on over killed SF or SGL I think your support will soon change when you don’t have a yellow posted sign to hide behind

This is no joke,I just got back from SGL in 2E and there was 20 people there I seen when I wasback at my truckand not one of them seen a deer. This is wrong all. 20 people no deer seen no shots heard from 6:45 I arrived till 10:50 I left. There are not alot to thrilled people out there.. But I will give another place a try after lunch I know and see what can be seen there. Again, 5 days of hunting no deer seen other than one. This is wrong people.
Same here in NY!! Just got back from hunting all day long, and seen only 1 fawn!!! Where are all the deer????????

Slimshady, ask the other hunters who told you it's all about the outdoor experience. Then why do they carry a weapon and a hunting license? Better yet, if they seen a deer, did they pull the trigger? Then ask why, if hunting is just about enjoying the outdoors, why pull the trigger and put a animal down?

I do share some of your sentiment. Deer populations are booming in non-hunted areas and down in the hunted lands. No argument from me on that. But that is our reality and I doubt it will swing back the other way during our tenure on the land. We hunt mostly state land in NY, we do not have a lease (although I am a guest once a year on a lease in the North Country) and I own land adjacent to a large state forest that I keep open for hunting (yes - no posted signs). I have not hunted PA in a few years but I know very well how difficult it is to find good hunting land that is not overrun by the orange army. Check out the Allegheny National Forest. Lots of land, lots of hunters (but not everywhere) and the opportunity to move around. I have friends near Kane that I have hunted with and they do not sit one minute of one day. They are sneak and peak hunters and they taught me to change my ways. They sneak around other hunters as well as they still hunt deer. You can rent cabins during hunting season. If the ANF is filled up try Allegany State Park or Highbanks Campground (Seneca Nation) on the NY side. I have stayed at both and you can usually get a cabin.

Best wishes. Peace.

1 dead doe I seen yesterday a hunter got. The leased property adjacent to the SGL is all posted. I was told by another hunter that a large group from that leased property drove the SGL towards their property and he took a doe on that boundry. That was the only deer he seen. He said about 5 minutes after they past him it sounded like a war zone on that leased property. That just ruined any thoughts of hunting there. I took my daughter and headto another location I use to hunt. It is private owned but anyone can hunt there. There was about 10 cars parked along the farmers property. We walked down in and sat till dark without the sound of any gun shots on his property. You could hear a few off on another leased property but not a pop there. That would make 4 different areas in 6 days and no live deer other than one.

Something has to change here. People who drives SGL to their leased or private property should not be allowed. They should not allow drives on SGL.
They should encourage food baiting to keep these deers on these properties.
Most leased lands have food plots set up. Once the deer find these plots they will most likely stay there. SGL do not have food plots that can compete with leased lands and private property. Something has to change with laws to encourage animals to stay on these SGL. It is BS that they post then hunt other areas and drive our lands to theirs. Food plots on SGL and no driving could help a little to keep deer on these properties. But I do think going back to 3 days of doe and bring the doe hunting before breeding season would be a big +. What do I know about the deer herds, I am just a hunter who spends more time in the real world of hunting and the outdoors than most the ones who are making these laws.

Now this is just my 10 cents worth..I have hunted PA for the past 50 years and I don't give a damn what the commission or anyone else says the deer just aint there as befor..Alot of this I think is because of fewer and fewer farms which mean less feed for the deer.Granted in some areas there are alot of deer,BUT darn few areas are like this..More land is getting posted and developed...I would like to see the commission offer some or these farmers the seed to plant for some deer grops..

I would agree to one week hunting per year for the next 5 years as well..NO MORE bonus tags either...Maybe go back to the 3 day doe season as well..Some people don't have as many days to hunt either,so I would also like to see Sunday hunting allowed..Or at least give it a try..Hell I'll sign a partion, send it over here...
