NYers ... how we doing?

How's everyones season going so far? It's starting to really heat up now. I've seen a lot of bucks moving during the day. Mostly smaller bucks so far and a few big boys. Lots of scrapes and rubs popping up daily. Should be a good week next week. Temps sound like they're going to be cooler and the hunters moon just behind us :D. Good luck to everyone.

I was out a little bit on friday and found a huge scrape and a rub on a medium sized tree with a smaller one branched off the bootm that the deer actually snapped in half. He was pounding that tree. I never seen anything like that before. I'm gonna get a pic when I get back over there.

after seeng NOTHING for 10 days i saw a MONSTER at about 80 yards tonight...couldnt count the points but his rack is much wider than his body and VERY tall, he was more interested in eating blackberry leaves than heanding my direction, but i know i'm in the right spot!

i would bet this deer would make P&Y, he really is a BEAST , especially for my neck of the woods!

i'm psyched!!

Ihunted Friday and Saturday without seeinga thing. I hunted in hot stands too, but nothing came by. Maybe next weekend. Most of the guys are seeing bucks and a few does, but not all of us. Three day weekend again next weekend!

A few deer chasing....I passed this guy up at 10 yards yesterday...He is just a 2 1/2 year old probably around 100" or so..He was pestering the does, but not running them too hard...

I have a feeling this is going to be a good week to be in the woods though. Starting Wednesday I am on vacation for 2 weeks!!

I don't know whats going on in my hunting woods. Things seem behind right now. Only seen a couple of scrapes, and 1 rub. They have usually scraped in several typical places by now. I have several bucks on my trail cams from spring thru Sept. But so far only seen 1 small 3pt. I let walk. I did see a couple doe w/ fawns yet this past wknd. I was expecting activity to pickup, least overnight with the full moon. But no signs of it. Weather was crappy though too. When I go back down this coming wknd, and if I don't see anymore sign I'll have to presume the bucks have moved outta my woods for some reason. This is all central NY, 7M, Cortland Co.
Anyone else in this area experiencing same right now??

I hunt near Springville, NY and the bucks were going wild on Saturday the 27th. During the a.m. hunt a nice thick and high 8 pointer chased a doe for a half hour underneath my stand up and down back and forth. He was grunting it seemed like every 5 steps, just little short low toned grunts. Drool hanging from his nose and mouth, couldn't even catch his breath.
During the afternoon hunt I had a 4 and 5 pointer under me blowing out every scrape on the logging road and sparring under my tree stand. About 5 minutes after they left i heard crashing to my right it was 2 doe being chased by a 6 pointer grunting and chasing not letting the doe stop to catch their breath. Up and down all around my stand for 25 mins. Just about dark at 6:10 pm, here come those same 2 doe running full speed under my stand. Then i see another body coming out of the woods where they did. All i saw was a huge main beam(21in)and knew he was a shooter. So i didn't pay anymore attention to him. I just concentrated on everything i needed to do to make the best shot possible. It worked out just perfect he was heading right into my shooting lane at 20 yards out. He spots the doe and starts running after them. I grunted 3 times finally he stopped. I already had drawn my bow back, found my anchor point and settled my 20 yard pin behind his front leg. Whack, 6:17 pm stuck the big boy. I knew the arrow hit him, but he puzzled me because he ran straight up a ridge and i didn't hear him crash (due to the leaves being wet). So now it's 6:20 pm almost dark, still in my stand trying to listen to hear where he is and it starts to poor. Luckily my father, his friend and my brother were at our cabin. They gathered up some flashlights met me at my treestand and started tracking. Arrow was covered with pinkish airbubbled blood so i knew it was a lung hit (thank the lord). But still why did he go up hill? Even with the rain coming down hard we were able to get on great blood. Trailed him for 40 yards and all we could see ahead on the ground were antlers. Big 9 point buck. Thick(5in at base), long and wide(21 in), just a beautiful buck. I will post picture and score once i get all pictures printed and buckscored. Second big buck off of our property this archery season. My father shot a beautiful 8 pointer the previous Sunday.Over the last6 hunting seasons my father, myself and2 brothershave been letting all of the inmature bucks walk, and boy has it payed off (0 doe taken off property). We havebagged some of the best bucks i have seen from around this area. I just thank the lord that our family has had theprivelege to own the land we do.But if you shoot every deer that walks by you, your chances of scoring like we do is slim to none. And some people don't understand that. New York state has some awesome land and game. We are very fortunate to live where we do. If you enjoy the sport and dedicate some time, everything will work out just great. Good luck toall.

First off, congratulations on your buck. Secondly, not all hunters care about antlers like you and your family seem to. They don't own land and are happy just to be able to have a place to hunt anywhere. Any deer, including the does you tell us you don't shoot off your property would make them happy.

Sorry didn't mean to offend anyone. Racks are not everything to me and my family. I was just saying that we have been very fortunate to be in the situation that we are. The land owners around us have just stuck to their guns and we have been benefiting from it. I could care less if i ever shoot another deer. I just enjoy being in the woods and observing wildlife.

I have been seeing a few. I have passed up a 6 and the same 7 twice now. Just young ones. No good shots at a decent doe. I have just started seeing a few small rubs and tonight two scrapes. They seem to be a bit behind here as well. Just starting it seems almost like 10 days behind usual.
