I get it and really like what has happened to the deer in PA. I also hunt 4C and see bucks on almost every trip out. Last year I saw 2 bucks very similar to this guy. Missed 1 and shot a nice 90-100 inch deer at the end of the season.
Where in 4c. I hunt in the Pine Grove, Indiantown Gap area and on the West side of 183.
Don't see high #'s of deer, but I certainly see lots of bigger deer. If you look at my wall that has an archery buck hangin on it for about 15 of the last 25 years you can see Dr. Alt's work. Small scronny spikes and Y's and now the racks are heavy and show the signs of good health.
BTW - I hunt about 3-5 miles from my car every time I go. Most of the guys that complain about no deer are all here complaining instead of doing some work to get in there and find the big guys.
Great Deer!!!!!!!!!

WillCz,
I'm from Pine Grove/Tremont... I've never hunted Ft. Indiantown Gap, but from driving down through, it looks pretty good. Are there any turkeys down there?
My friend shot this guy on Public Land last year: It became #3 largest in Schuylkill Co. All Time Archery!

Wow that is a great Schuylkill Cty. buck. I am originally from Pottsville and live around Reading.
I haven't seen a turkey on the gamelands near the gap in about 3 years. I think the coyotes got them. We hunted gobblers there for years and then they started to disappear. Some around but VERY VERY few.
That 4c mountain range is a great place to hunt, but not for the 1x/year casual hunter. I was doe hunting(tagged a great 9 pointer off of 183)on the game lands near the gap a few years back and had a deer a lot like your friend's come up to about 20 yards and spend 10 minutes eating the moss off of a tree. He just worked his way off and I didn't heara shot for a very long time.
I have shot over 10 bucks from the same 50 yard area about 4 miles west of 183. A good walk and an even harder drag. I see some hunters but only a few walking the appalachian trail. Saw a legal but not a shooter buck this past Saturday and let him go. Getting ready for the rut.
