I can't believe there aren't more moose in the Adirondaks. In Vermont, moose collisions don't even make the news anymore unless the motorist is killed/severly injured. I'm sure in the next few years, they will become commonplace along the Northway.

MikeVT,

Over the past couple years they have put the moose X-ing signs back up along the highway between Speculator and Indian Lake. That is the best chance to see a moose in the Adirondacks. Not sure how many the DEC projects to be but I would say the population is on the rise.

There was a small bull in Waterford the other day and an article following in the Times Union the following day about the moose in the ADK's. The last moose was shot in the ADK's sometime back in the 1860's and they have been transplanted from VT, NH and ME since the 80's. Now they think they have a herd of roughly 500. The expect that to double by 2012. Apperently they were stocking them in the 80's and into the early 90's where they had roughly 30-40 moose. The stocking was stopped by animal rights activist that thought the state was trying to get the population to huntable size. Those people suck.

last year there was another young bull in Watertown, right around the same time in late September. That one was tranquilized by the DEC and transported to the Adirondacks where it was found dead the next day.

I think it would be awesome to see a moose in the woods. And a moose traveling from the Adirondacks to Watertown would have an excellent chance of going right through the land i hunt.
