massachusetts rut
#2

I usually expect some pre rut action the week of Halloween. Last year I shot my buck working a scrape 10/24. Most rut action I have seen was towards the end of the first week of November. The warmer weather the past couple of years seems to have drawn everything out and made it much harder to predict though.

I was watching deer and deer hunting tv, If you believe in the moon phase setting the tone for the rut like they do than you hit the week perfect.I do believe that the moon might have somethingto do with it but I think the weather needs to be average or below average also

Ya know I think its all hogwash. The Rut being the rut has always been the first couple weeks of Nov. I havn't done any exspensive studys or wrote a book but you can take this to the bank. Take your vacation the first 2 full weeks of Nov. and you will have your best chances at a rutting buck. If you only get one take the second week. Belive me if you want or don't I'm just trying to help. But after 45 years of hunting New England thats what I have found no matter what moon, High tide, color socks you wear. Now I will say this about it if the weather is warm it all happens at the same time but more so after dark. Hope for nice cool days.
