Default Bowhunter Education Certificates?????

I was going to hunt in NY with my bow this coming season, but I see I need some sort of Bowhunter Education Certificate. Anyone have a clue of how and where I can obtain such a thing? I was offererd a decent chunk of private land to hunt so I'd hate to waste the chance. Also I can extend my hunting times, due to being allowed to hunt Sundays.

When I got mine a LONG time ago I had to go through a class that lasted the better part of a week (evenings only). It was essentially a hunter safety course but dealt only with bowhunting...no firearm info. Good luck and HTH.

Thanks Steve! You would think over 20 years of hunting experience would be enough, but I guess NY has always had a few odd laws. I'm not finding much info out there on courses, but I'll keep lookin.

I got mine a few years ago....its basicallyanother HTE (Hunter Trapper Education) course that is geared specifically to bowhunters. I was actually very impressed with the one I took (Gem City Outdoorsman Club in McKean).

I'm not positive where to look for available classes. Check out the PGC website under available HTE classes...I think they list the bow ones too.

Here's a link:

Here is the link to courses in NY state if you are close enough to attend one:

Otherwise, I believe that any bowhunter course would be sufficient.

They wouldn't sell you the license with a prior PA bowhutning license? That's how my cousin got his a few years back, and now he is in the system and can purchase it every year.

I bought a NYS non resident tag and all I had to show was a previous license with an archery tag. Should still be the same for this year.

Try, many states and all Canadian Provinces require a bow hunter certificate. I would guess that all will eventually require this training. All courses are based on the Internationl Bowhunter Safety Course format. The IBEPcourse and certificate is recognize world wide so 1 course is all you need. Believe me, you may think it's a pain in the butt, but no matter how experienced you are you will take someting home from your training that you didn't know, guarenteed.
Good Hunting....

No, not reallya pain in the butt taking a course. I'd actually enjoy it I think. Just finding one seems to be a hassle.
