I'll be out with the bow in Allegheny County in a bow only area waiting for all the sluggers to push them my way. A very large 8 pt has been seen using the property I hunt for escape cover all through the gun season. I'll probably take the smoke pole out on Saturday.

Yeah I can't wait till Thursday. Smoke Pole Season is my favortie way to spend a Christmas break. Now it time to suffer some partial frustration of click and boom or no boom. Nothing like pulling the trigger only to not have a good spark and have to do it again. Hands down favorite season for me. Little more distance than a bow, no whackos firing their rifles at anything brown just a good slow walk through the woods in hopes of pushing a few out to the standers at the end of the woods. Happy holidays and Happy hunting!

It's the only time I use the ground flints like T/C sells. They don't last long and are expensive, but I always have a new one in when hunting. And just off the frizzen a smidgen. That gun has to fire then.
I admire you winter bowhunters. Even the fawns are pretty cagey on most of the lands I hunt by then.

Yeah, I'll be out for the first time with my muzzleloader. I've always carried the bow second season, we've always tried to save a tag for late season...you know, I feel it's harder to take a mature doe second season than a buck first season...sometimes it's down right too cold for the bow...burrr and I got a muzzleloader two years ago and finally sighted in in a week ago Sunday. I'm really excited about taking my first animal with the flintlock.

Me too.....6 days in a cabin in N Central PA.
I'll have both the bow and the flintlock along.(bow for any rainy/snowy days)
Mhogan,
Same here with those cut Agate flints, between that a bored out touch hole, and FFFg powder down the tube my flinter goes off in a HEARTBEAT. In fact knock on wood here, but I have never had a misfire of any kind on game, and maybe a half dozen on the range just from laziness.......take care of things and with a few little tricks man do they go off!
One tip a buddy of mine came up with....get a can of that CRC "Electronic Contact Cleaner" and spray down your frizzen and wipe with a clean dry paper towel or cloth. It removes ANY AND ALL fingerprint residue or stray oils. You should see the dry hot sparks I get from my gun......looks like 4th of July! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
I'm shooting an older model .50cal T/C "PA Hunter" (w/ octagon stepped to round barrel) customized with a set trigger assembly replacing the horrid factory single trigger, and a fiber optic front sight, and a aftermarket touch hole.
100grs of FFFg and 295gr Hollow point "Power Belts"......hot load I know, but drives tacks which surprised me considering my gun's 1/66" twist rate. We all save an antlerless tag just for this late season where I think I've taken 5 so far? And its also accounted for 2 in the regular "OLD" doe season where I just couldn't bring myself to tote a rifle.
The thing just flat out shoots.
