Default NYC Hunters?

I've searched the forum and read some good material for novice hunters but figured I would start my own thread.

I currently live in Brookly NYC (hence the name) and I wanted to get into hunting, I have a five year old son and I wanted hunting to be something I can teach him or pass down to him, so I do have some time to get up to speed.

Living where I do not many people hunt and frankly I don't know anyone who does, so this would be a solitary activity for myself. Is there anyone in NYC in the same boat? And what are the best resources to get started?

Right now I'm planning on buying a rifle, using my old cammies from my days in the Marines, finding public land in New York once deer season starts and simply heading out there, trial by fire if you will.

Any help or adviceis appreciated, thanks.

Good luck to you and your son. I'm sure he'll cherish the memories of hunting days with his dad.

before you do anything, take the hunter safety course. in order to get a hunting license you have to take the course. they should be able to teach you everything you'll need to know to get started.
check out this link to find out when the next course is around you.

First thing to do is apply for a firearm. As a NYC resident you have to jump through a few hoops to get a gun.You are living in one of the most gun unfriendly areas in the US. Move a few blocks out of the five boroughs and it completely changes but as it stands have fun filling out forms and getting approval from the cops and maybe, just maybe, in six months you'll be able to buy a .22. Once you get the gun then post/ask again and I'm sureeveryone will providelists of public land in NY available for hunting and maybe even a few public places that don't show up on such lists. Also as stated above the hunting course guys are usually very friendly and will give you tons of info and even info on some clubs etc.Good luck.
