FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
This afternoon my best friend and I went hunting. Well, I pushed a small patch of woods out to him and nothing came out. I found this odd because there is ALWAYS deer in it. Well, I went and got set up and he pushed a hill side that is about 1 1/2 miles long that is NOTHING but briars. This place is usually entirely PACKED with deer. I mean, on average, 20 deer will come out of it, but, nothing today. Well, on my way out of my woods, I saw foot tracks. I followed them because nobody should have been on my property. Well, they lead right up to the 3 point that I walked up on Monday morning. Someone shot him right through the base of the neck. Definetly not a instant kill shot. The deer died in a way that made it look like it was bedded down, not the normal fall over deer. I checked out his leg because he was limping and I noticed that it was broke. My guess is that some idiotic piece of trailor trash was walking on my property, tresspassing, saw this buck, shot it, walked up to where it bedded down, then just left it. The deer had his legs tucked under him and everything. When I first saw it, I thought it was just sleeping. I think that he got shot and was already in so much pain from having a broken leg that he just laid there with a bullet in the bottom of his neck and died a slow death. It brought tears to my eyes to think of what that deer went through. He is only a 1 1/2 year old, but he was showing potential. I passed on this guy last year when he was a small spike (2-3" spikes). He had a 12" spike on both sides, but his right side forked with a 7" fork. Not a huge body, maybe 130#, but, he probablly would have been a good one in two or three years. I followed this "hunters" tracks and they lead to a 4 wheeler trail that leads out to the highway.
People like this aren't hunters, they are pieces of crap that don't have the right to call themselves hunters. I hope this person never sees another deer in his life, let alone get a shot at another one. I wish this person the worst luck in life and I wish that with all my heart. I mean, if you shoot an illegal buck and don't want to report it, ATLEAST TAKE THE BODY. It is pointless to leave it lay in the woods to rot. OOOOOOOOOO, I am so ticked right now. Sorry for the long post, I just had to vent. Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet ![]() Check out my hunting PICS here http://community.webshots.com/user/buckmagnet |
RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
That sucks to hear that BM. It makes me wonder how many times that happens up there in PA. If it is anything like WV, a lot of people just see horns and start shootin. No doubt there are a lot of spikes and three pointers like this shot and left to rot away, but I guess everything can't be controlled. Good luck keepin your property free of those pests.....
HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO! |
RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
Sorry to hear this BM, but maybe tone down the slow death and pain part, we don't need any more flack than we already get as hunters. Also a shot to the base of the neck, I am assuming you mean where the neck meets the body will kill a deer instantly.

RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
Last week while hunting on our property we had some problems with poachers. They would shoot at any and every deer they saw. WE chased them down later that night. And turned them into the DNR. It makes me sick when people act like that.

RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
That is a SICK and sad story we as hunters need to have more respect for the game. I don't care if its a fish, squirrel, deer, bear, or what ever no one should shoot something just for the heck of it. There is someone that could use that meat if a person shoots something they should take care of there mess.

RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
It really sickens me that some of these scum share the same woods with us. I took some deer that were smaller than I thought over the years (ground shrink), but I would never even consider leaving them to rot. These deer are usually the most tender eating anyway. I have met those that do leave them though. The most memorable was a guy who was poaching the property I hunt. He had just poached the trophy I'd been legally hunting for months while I had killed a small buck. He asked me if I was going to bother dragging it out--should just leave it there. I told him that I was as he shrugged. He was there again the next day to take additional illegal kills (we were allowed just one at the time). He had NO LISCENSE, NO PERMISSION, NO ORANGE and most lacking of all--NO ETHICS.
Today's small bucks are tomorrow's trophies. |
RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
Want to hear something that will really make you sick. Neighbor kid wacked a beatuy of a 10 point. All signs in the snow indicated a gut shot. it ran acroos the field into the other neghibors swamp. we watched thru binos and the buck fell over and kicked his last. The property is posted by this anti. We ( his dad, me and the kid ) drove over to the owner's house and asked for permission to retrieve the buck. He said no way! If he sees us in there he'll call the cops. Now that is a waste.

RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
re. Barking treed's post...
It is very much a waste. There should be some kind of law that allows you to at least retrieve your deer. Yesterday in Allegheny Co. my brother hit a 6 point buck. We tracked the deer onto private property then across the road and into more private property. There was substantial blood the whole way. As we attempted to go find it we were chased out even after explaining what happened. In this instance I think you should be allowed to go in, perhaps without weapons, and bring it out. What a waste! At least if it was summer the people could enjoy the aroma of rotting deer flesh drifting in thru their screened windows. |
RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
Ive never run across those problems up here, most people are pretty neighborly,I guess there not over run with scumbag hunters, even the anti, will let you drag a deer out.Ive hunted up here since sept this year and only ran into another hunter twice, besides the local drive guys thats it That group does only one push the first day of gun then there out of here.Ive hunted penns woods and its like squirle hunting I can honestly say you learn to be a hunter up here If you want a deer My stands have been out all year some for two years not a problem you have time to scout and plan and not worry about some hunter sitting 30yards from you opening morn, I could go on. My first deer at age 16 was taken by a scum bag It ran 200yards I never got to tag it It was shot by 3 other hunters near pottsville pa.

RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!

RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
Well Buck,M, You have just entered the world of reality,I found 4 three buttons, and a 4 inch spike on my place of 400 acers, As we few try to manage our deer herds,There are hundereds out there that just don't give a hoot.If it doesn't drop in front of them then owell another will be along, I have never left a peace of meat in the woods in my intire life an will only hunt with a few selected people,
What you have witnest is the hunting skills of a WANTABIE with no concern or respect for animal life. I'm thinking maybe give the weapons to the critters and let them do some management on the hunting population???? WHAT YA THINK???? We have in this state a permitts availible for land owners that have crops that the deer are getting into I'm sorounded by chrismas tree growers and they just kill and let a lot of their kill justlay for the coyotes. NY'S way of down sizing the deer population, And ya have the road hunters, and the one that can't read posters. Well I got to stop typing as I'm getting madder by the word. RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
34 years ago when I started deer hunting I heard 5 shots close by. Sounded like someone opened up with an autoloader. About two hours later a man I knew asked me if I heard the shots. I said yes of course. He said that some idiot from NYC had been invited to hunt by the landowner. The idiot had pumped 5 12ga rounds into a button buck. Of course at the time only deer with antlers longer than 3" were legal. They just left it there.
The people we are discussing now act the same as the people back then. This isn't a new problem. I remember times when it wasn't safe to hunt that property because of those invited guests. I couldn't complain because the landowner was a supervisor in the plant where my dad worked. It is a crying shame that we who hunt because we love the outdoors are painted with the same brush as those who only want to kill to satisfy their egos. |
RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
Sorry to hear of all of this going on, but really, ya had to see it coming. 900,000 doe tags in PA. That is "brown it's down" mentality. On the other hand, you now have 3 points or better for bucks. "game management theory". These two sides clash, and is why you see this problem. Those with the "brown it's down" mentality are not going to change, they see a deer, it goes down, and then they check to see if it's legal afterwards. I don't agree with it, but it's the way it happens. The only way we can stop this from happening in the future is through education. Teach the next generation that they do not HAVE to go out and shoot ONLY a trophy deer, for otherwise they are not true "sportsmen". This mentality has been passed down for many generations, and need to be changed back. Teach them that ANY deer is a trophy, not just the 180-class 10 point. This will instill pride in hunters that the harvest is not for the trophy alone, but for the meat they can share with their family. Thankfully certain hunting-related TV shows are realizing this, and are now showing more "management hunts" where they takes does and lesser bucks. Our ancestors would puke if they saw the waste and carnage going on with the hunting society of today, and these "hack" hunters must be taught that this senseless slaughter of animals that could perfectly well feed many hungry people in our country is just plain shameful. Just my own thoughts, Pinwheel 12

RE: FOUND A GROUND CHECKED BUCK TODAY!!!!!
Pinwheel12, Excellent reply...adding that everyone should turn in all unlawful behavior.
PAhunterJen, at this point the only coarse action to take is to call the Game Comm and hope they send someone out to help recover the animal or at least arrest anyone on that property possessing that untug deer. <font color=blue>Good Luck and Good Shooting</font id=blue> <font color=red>Rob</font id=red> |
