RE: Declining license sales in PA, a new theory

It's really pretty easy to understand. License sales are down and will continue to decline due to hunter dissatisfaction with the way the agency is managed. Unfortunately, nothing will change as long as the same executive managers are still sitting in their comfortable seats.

This decline and the mismanagement that has caused it has not gone unnoticed by the legislators. If the PGC were a corporation and had conducted business in the fashion they administer the agency the whole executive group would be replaced. Business does not allow for gross mismanagement.

Currently we have a Director who has no background in this field what so ever. The previous Director ran a supermarket. Who will be the next Director, the manager of your local "Jiffy Lube?"

The license sales figure was down 40%for July's sales. Why? The hunters were sending the PGC a message of dissatisfaction with the way the agency was managing deer. Yes, those same disgruntled hunters did purchase a license, but will they next year? will the go to another state? Possibly. Who loses? The hunters who are left. The fat cats in the Executive office still get their salary and probably a bonus.

CH, how do you explain license sales being down equally, or worse, all across North America?

And hey, what's this?

The license sales figure was down 40%for July's sales.
Little bit of manipulation to make your point?
How about we just stick with the truth of the final figures.

Last official report had PA license sales within 1% of the same time last year. the 40% number from July is just like the USP and their suit...

Yesterdays news! No longer relevant!

For whatever reason last year had a pretty big drop. This year seems to be more in line with the rest of the country.
Didn't NY have like a 20% drop? What's up with that?

Might add that I just read an article about the midwest and pheasant hunting.More farmers these a days are leasing for the hunts which is averaging $100 a day. It's their land so they have the right to do that but the article went on to say this practice will hurt license sales across the country.I'd have to agree because I wouldn't be hunting pheasants very often. Then on the other hand depending what else they have to hunt in say SD it might not be worth it to purchase a license. We are very fortunate in PA as far as access to this point.

Actually the current drop in sales is 3% per the PGC 12-31-06 report. I would post it but it is a .pdf file, not a link.
The last figureI ever saw about US figures was in an American Hunter article in the spring and it said that US adult licenses dropped 1% and that junior licenses actually rose. That was in comparison to last year's 6% drop in Pa.
Pa. has a special problem since all the explanations offered also apply in the rest of the country.

Less place to hunt
Less game to hunt
Less licenses being sold
