Big ol' monster NY buck...
My uncle brought these pics. over last night. Don't know too much about this deer except that its a gun kill from Chemung County (Elmira area). Some of my dad's friends from work who live in Elmira have been talking about this deer so I'm pretty sure that its legit. I guess its supposed to be a 22-23 pt. in the 215 to 220" range. He certainly has an impressive typical frame. Bucks just don't get much nicer than this in this part of the world. Agghhh...if only more of our bucks could make it to maturity. Anyways, just thought I'd pass along the pics of this truely awesome buck for the rest of the NY hunters on here.
Any of you NY'ers have any info. on this deer? http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...Ymonster-1.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b284/WNYBowhunter/NYmonster-2.jpg?t=1166453021 |

RE: Big ol' monster NY buck...
We have 150 acres in Waverly, NY. I didn't hunt there this year, but will be there next year. One of the hunters took a 150" plus buck off the farm, there are some big bucks up there

RE: Big ol' monster NY buck...

RE: Big ol' monster NY buck...
Gnarly... Nice deer. Add this one to the monster taken in Mansfield opening day of early archery, and that's all you need to know about whitetail bucks in NYS. For every one of these monsters that are harvested, you can bet another 100 or more like it are never seen.
Buck conditions in NYSare just fine. Asare the deer herds on the whole. Some pockets are certainly in better shape than others, but I would look to habitat for the answersto those differences. Early returns from the harvest reports show a harvest on par with last year's - Bucks about the same, does running a little higher. That was expected with more DMPs. What is of note, and pertinent to this thread, is that the bucks are showing a higher than historicallynormal harvest of mature bucks (3.5 - 5.5), especially on the older side. At least this is what I am hearing from the biologists... |

Lead - check the smiley face for gripes sakes!
Do a search - I think you will find that AR/trophy management to be something that garners little support from me. Steve |
RE: Big ol' monster NY buck...
Yes, it does appear that the 2006 season in NYS will be the year of the big buck.
We have this one shown, we have the Mansfield monster, Another beast in CNY, and I just received a photo of another gigantic buck, harvested in Niagara County on opening day of Regular season. The picture stinks - hopefully I can get a better one. However, the buck that was taken is the 2nd largest on record for Niagara County. I hope to get a better picture... |
RE: Big ol' monster NY buck...
doctariAFC,
I'd heard rumors of that big Niagara County buck on another forum. I'm guessing he's a typical? I've also heard talk of a 210" bowkill from Suffolk County and another 200"+ non-typ. buck from Allegany County. Have you heard anything to back these two up? |

That Niagara County Buck is a non-typical. Too many drop tines to mak ethe typical class. My uncle's hunting buddy got him. |

Its kinda hard to tell whether or not the tip of hisleft beam is busted off. I'd guess he's at least mid-180's. According to the latest NYSBBC Record Book, the current #2 non-typ. from Niagara County is 187.

Bottom line.... These deer are out there, and for everyone seen here, you can bet there's a bunch that have yet to be seen. Right on! |
RE: Big ol' monster NY buck...
Guy in the picture didn't shoot buck. Retired school teacher from southside high school did. Wasn't even going to mount it. Didn't think that big of deal, until the drivers reached him!! Shot near the Bush farm on Jerusalem Hill/East Hill, Town of Elmira, Two days before end of shotgun. Yes, this is great area to hunt. 8 confimed 130+ class buck taken in a 5 square mile area.l CROKIT

RE: Big ol' monster NY buck...

RE: Big ol' monster NY buck...
Awesome Buck!!!
I live in the southern tier(Chenango county)and have seen some nice one.Mostly on private property, only one encounter in the woods. But they are definately around. We dont need AR,we need poacher enforcement. They are 100 times worse than the predators. Congrats on the monster |
