I don't see cutting timber as a bad thing myself. I think it would be good for all game animals, even if they upped it to 2%. Who gets the money is the question. That timber belongs to the sportsmen of PA, and so the money should go to such programs.

I understand that the PGC must keep their cutting to a sustainable limit but they also need to explain why it appears that they are failing to cut anything near that amount. Especially when they are in a financial crisis and also because timbering is good for most wildlife and for forest regeneration.

I dont have much criticism for the PGC but they are guilty of remaining largely silent on this issue IMHO. If there's a good reason they arent cutting more timber, they ought to make it public and soon.

Your correct. Cutting the timber is a very good thing for wildlife. Right now the revenue derived from timbering goes into the PGC General Fund. If DCNR takes over the money will be appropriated as DCNR sees fit. You can bet it won't go into the general fund.

Keep in mind that the PGC has denied themselves about $10 Million Dollars each of the last several years because they refuse to cut the stated goal of a hundred yearrotation of one ful percent. Over the years this has cost the agency many million$ of dollar$. That money can NEVER be recovered.
Mismanagementhas put the agency in a black hole.

DCNR will make no such mistake! Sportsmen will be the big losers.

i was watching that deer meeting on tv that was held at dubois,pa.there was about 4 state reps there..

the president of the wccsa in clinton county was talking and rep asked him about cutting trees..

the president of sportsmen club and former dcnr employeesaid, yes trees need cut but remember if left go more money is in wood..

the state rep got mad and came back and said, cut the trees..

that was wrong answer to that reps question..

so, you can see that its all about wood/money not on creating habitat for deer..
