RE: pa hunting

I just learned why PA allowed us to kill way too many deer. On MSN.com there is an article about the top ten states in the country for deer related car accidents. Guess which state is number 1? Good ol PA. Tell me that isn't the real reason for the increased bag limits and not the "carrying capacity" of the land. I wish they would just be honest. I'll still get my deer I'm not crying about it I'm just sick ofbeing treated like an idiot.

It is pure myth that pressure from insurance companies because of deer claims has something to do with deer management.

I spent 30 years as an independent insurance agent and never once heard any insurance company mention deer claims in Pa as a problem. Insurance companies accept things like deer claims as a part of their expenses. They only get worked up about claims they cant predict or charge for in advance. Deer claims are very predictable.

Political pressure to reduce the deer herd comes from timber companies, farmers and the sierra club types. Not insurance companies.

if insurance co. are involved, which i believe they are, they are not dumb enough to do it in public..

they use LOBBYISTS in harrisburg..i think erie insurance had article on how many deer collosions they had in pa..

sad part is, in my gut from all years driving like all of us, deer are blamed by a lot of us when it was OTHER reasons..its easy way to get claim paid..

best one lately is,.OH, I SWERVED TO MISS A DEER AND HIT A TREE..

CAUSES OF WRECKS, falling asleep, drinking, putting eye make up on, speeding.dropped cig on floor, spilled coffee, bad tires, debris on road, kids driving you nuts, swerving to miss squireal, looking at homes while driving,wet/snow on roads..

DEER get blamed many times for all of the above..thats why the new slogan is" I SWERVED TO MISS A DEER"..this way they dont need hair on bumper to get paid..

It has more to do with getting PA's State Forests, certified. The DCNR wants its forests certified by the Scientific Certification System, a company that examines the state's forestry practices.

If they become certified, then the DCNR can get topmarket valuefor its timber. The only thing that stands in the way, is the deer population.

Its the DCNR that is pushing for deer extermination and the PGC is going right along with them.

While the number of hunters decline every year, the demand for wood and timber goes up every year.

You do the math.

you are right..dcnr has to blame deer so they can show that something is going to improve woods and they can get money as you said..

if we dont watch our selves our hunting could be restricted or curtailed in coming years..we are losing our influence in harrisburg, you can see that now..

first step is to get rid of deer ,then new rules could go in affect, like hunting only in certain areas and more WILDERNESS AREAS that you could be required to walk on trails only..

make no mistake about it, dcnr does not want us in woods walking all around..if they had their way, you would be on designated trails..

i think we will see things like this happening in our lifetimes here in pa..

Sorry Sproul, but this is one area where I can unequivically say that you dont have a clue. As I said, I spent 30 years inside the industry and NEVER once were deer claims ever considered a problem by any of the dozens of auto insurance carriers I dealt with. I challenge you to provide one shred of proof thatANY pressure came fromANY insurance company to kill more deer any time in the last 20 years! Or ever for that matter.

BTW, Insurance companies don't stock coyotes either.

Second, "I swerved to miss a deer and hit a tree" is a "your fault" collision. Its not the same as hitting a deer which is a comprehensive claim and not an accident. Usually a lower deductible and no surchargs for an accident if you hit the deer versus missing the deer and hitting anything else.

They all end up the same way with everyone's distinct opinion rising to the top of their posts.
My opinion, don't vote for Casey, nor Rendell.
Rendell is a crook.
Casey is a Kook.
Rendell is going to raise the tax rate in both the wage tax and the sales tax. He also wants to strengthen the gun laws.
Casey, well, he is clueless. He will vote for whatever the party tells him to. I'm tired of the tax cut propaganda. Are you paying more or less now than before as far as Federal income tax. I'm nowhere near wealthy and I got a huge tax cut when Bush enacted them. If the tax cuts get repealed we are going to have far less money to spend on our hunting gear. That won't matter though because hunting will be of no use when you are not legal to own weapons.
These are the real issues facing PA sportsmen. The insurance industry does not care about the herd in PA.

Forest certification is the primary factor in this whole picture. It is a fact that the PGC has not met their stated goal of 1 full percent of timbering in the last several years. It should be noted that DCNR has met their one percent timbering goal. The PGC has an excuse every year why they fall short. DCNR simply cuts the timber.

Rest assured when DCNR is in control of our ...OUR Game Lands they will most certainly cut a full one percent of the timber each yearon them.
If nothing else, Ed Rendell understands money. Our Game Lands are chock full of prime timber that will sell at a premium.

It's all about the money!
