Default Hunting alone again

Well gang,I head up north to my happy hunting ground, but I'm not as happy about it as I usually am.This will be the second season of being in camp by myself.Normally I would be hunting with my dad and my father in law,but since my dad is out west for the season(visiting family)and my father in law has grown older and less active,I will be going it alone again.Though I did very well last year(scored my biggest and best tasting deer)and have great expectations for this season,I miss being in "camp" with the guys.I really shouldnt call this place a "camp" as its more of the family fortress,22 rooms and 12 bedrooms.Somehow I dont think I'll need all the space. The one buddy that had planned to come up,blew out his knee a few months ago and deffinately cant handle the terrain,so I'm on my own.So if any of you NH hunters come accross a slightly depressed hunter, pulling a monster, could you please give me a hand,Id be glad to meet you and buy you a cup of coffee.

I realize this is much easier said than done but maybe it is time for you to become a mentor and instructor of new hunters? Maybe there is a boy scout troop, church group, youth group or some such alternative to these main stream groups that you would be comfortable dealing with to recruit new hunters from. Also, in states like mine (NJ) they are looking for instructor volunteers for teaching the NJ hunter safety courses.
Of course this is not the hunting companionship going up to the family lodge that you are missing right now, but, maybe someone who is a student this year can become a trusted friend in future years.
I do apologize for my obvious idealisim, It's proven to be a liability from time to time.
Hope you get your monster buck!

Well as for being a mentor,I think I have that title already,I enjoy taking my son and nephews out every chance "they" get.My son is only 3 but my nephews are old enough to go on those cold NH mornings.School on the other hand keeps them from going as often as they and I would like.My seasons usually end fairly quickly,as we have alot of deer on the land I hunt,so they dont get to go if I tag 1 early.
As for guys lookin for a new hunting spot,I've made plenty of offers to guys I trust around me with a gun.The yahoos that want to hunt after drinking all night,I dont need, and believe me,there are plenty of those guys out there.
Im still keeping my fingers crossed that I'll find a partner that I enjoy hunting, fishing and shooting with,(my son will be that guy pretty soon),but till then,I'll keep doin what I'm doin.
hanks for the replies and good luck this season.Be safe.

I will be heading to Conway on Thursday am. How is the outlook up there. Is the rut in full swing yet?

I have hunted the Pittsburg area for several years. Nice country. Many hunters on the muzzleloader opener, but it seems to clear out after the first couple of days.

Good luck . . . Rob

Thanks nhhunter,I've been on the boards for almost a year, but they keep loosing my posts,so it sure doesnt look like it.I hunt in Hill NH,I have 1850 acres of private land to myself and 1 other hunter, its a logging opperation,so there are some great logged out areas.I head up there this am,and should be back home sat night or sooner if I tag out early.I'll keep you NH hunters posted. Thanks again, good luck

Good Luck NHTEN. I see you are in Dedham, I am in Quincy. I have many friends in Dedham. Maybe some day we can hook up and go shooting at my club, Braintree Rifle and Pistol.

Sounds good specialist.Im sittin up in the "camp"trying to stay dry, rainin cats and dogs here right now,but it will make the hunting nice and quiet tomorrow morning.Just finished shooting the rifles, checking their "zero",so its time to sit and wait for morning. As for the rut,I really couldnt tell you.I talked to the guy whos land I lease, and hes been seeing a few deer on the edges of the fields in the middle of the day,so I think its under way if not peaking.Too bad we didnt talk earlier, theres lots of room for another hunter here, maybe next year.Good luck up in Conway,be safe.
