Default Acorns?

I was out looking around the property I'll be deer hunting this fall and found the following on trees. Are these a type of acorn that isn't fully developed yet or are they something else? Is this something that deereat?

They look more like under-developed pine cones.

I wish I could say with absolute certainity exactly what those are (also, you need something in that picture to give it some scale)--I would also guess that they are some kind of cone. They are not acorns.

What kind of tree were they on?

Oak trees= acorns

I'll take a picture of the tree and leaves tomorrow. I think they are just not developed all the way yet.

I bet these are off white oak - this year is bad in our area (NH) for acorns and many are just dried in place because it has been dry this summer.

I'm quite positive they are acorns. I'll take a picture of the leaves and tree then post.

If those are acorns, there is something wrong with that tree! I have a million of them in my driveway from the trees here, and have never seen anything even remotely resembling that.

Again, the area that I will be hunting and where these came from is very dry this time of year. I'm sure I would look something like that as well if I didn't have much water. I'll get to the bottom of this. Like I said before, I will post pics as soon as I get the time. You guys have acorns in staten island?
