RE: Acorns?

We have plenty of trees on Staten Island. Also the most parks in the city and hundreds of deer to boot. I have seen deer on multiple occasions here.

I'm just kidding around with you guys. The only thing I'm wondering is whats inthe pictures that I submitted. I'm curious and would like to know what they are so I can plan accordingly and know what to look for when hunting season comes around.

I showed these to one of my tree huggin neighbors and he said sometime oak and beech cross polinate and you get some funky fruit. Taste one - does it taste like olive oil - if it is is has beech in it.

lpv77, you must be familiar with the situation here. Seems everyone wants to keep it a secret for some reason. The "deer expert" on the island, some old man with an animal farm, refuses to talk abotu it, especially at hunting events at my sportsman's club. I think he gets money from the state to deny their presence. They are definately breeding here though. I know someone who saw fawns with a doe last year. No car accidents reported yet though, which surprises me to this day.

I have pictures of the "nuts" or whatever they might be. Any help is appreciated to figure out what kind of tree this is.It has beenvery dry here the past month or so likeI was saying earlier in thethread. We have gotten a decent amount of rain the past week or so.Wondering if that will help them.

white oaks have rounded leaf edges. reds have points. white oaks are prefrerred by the deer. find a stand of those bad boys and get hunting!

Those are some type of White Oak Troutman. I have no idea what would make the acorns look like that. Any foresters out there?
