Default Help me with an annoying neighbor

Hi guys, Yesterday a friend and I were shooting his 30-06 into a target on my property. My wife and I are building our log home at the beginning of the catskill park near the Ashokan in Hurley NY. Anyone familiar with this area knows that everyone lives "in the woods".. We have 7 acres and there are no houses that can be visually seen. The closest home is roughly 200-300 yards away through the forest. There is a rifle range roughly 25 acres away and they shoot all day every day. (morgan hill game association). A state police officer pulled up my driveway which is 1000 feet long from the Rd and asked if we were shooting, I replied yes and he checked out our target and was content that we were doing nothing wrong and left. He came back about 30 mins later to tell me the neighbor has a map claiming that my newly built home is 430 ft from their house. I am confused because I do not even have an "as built" submited to the town location my home on the property yet so how would they know this distance? Did they trespass onto my land that is clearly marked with posted signs? These are the exact same neighbors that I let use a trail behind my house for mountain biking and walking. They actually have the nerve to cut trees to make it wider. I need some help on this matter. There are absolutely no houses anywhere around my home with this being the only exception.

What you need to do is go and talk to them. Ask them about whether they submitted the distance, how they measured it,and if you have to explain how you let them do these things on your property and that it would be common courtesy not to pursue a technicality for the shooting. If they are a holes about it, no more walkingand mountain biking on your trail. BTW, is the regulation 500 feet, and if so, is there a place on your property that IS 500 feet?

The main thing is that when you talk to someone, usually everything is fine.

I would get the exact facts on the land perimeter and submit this to the state and local police mitigating the complaint as groundless. You have a logged compliant against you and if you do not address it it will stand helping the anti's next time you are practicing your right to the second amd.

I would talk to the folks and let them know that they are at fault and you have submitted all the appropriate documents to law enforcement. I would also let them know you plan to keep shooting IAW the law and if they areusing part of you land for recereation, you need to advise them in writing to no longer trespass. You can them post signsalong the boarder of the property with them that hte land is open for HUNTING ONLY.

I wouldalso letthe fish copsknow as they will help you out in handling problems like this.

Talk to them first, but if they are resistant, do whatGreek Hunter says and tell them they will be arrested if they step foot on your property.

Speaking of crazy neighbors...I have this guy next to me who owns around 250 acres. He doesn't hesitate (rather, didn't hesitate) to ride his fourwheeler across our 15 acres to get to his hunting spot. If anyone was to pull in his driveway he would most likely come out yelling, call the cops and go nuts. I hope I don't have a deer go on his property this coming season. I'm not sure how to go about it ifthat day comes. What would anyone else on the forum do in my shoes? This guy is crazy.
