RE: PA Elk
when is the drawing
|
RE: PA Elk
Drawing is Sept 23 at the Elk Expo. Good luck!
Here is my 2005 Bull. |
RE: PA Elk
Beautiful bull! What did you use to take him?
|
RE: PA Elk
Thanks. I took him with a Winchester 30-06, 180gr nosler partition at 100 yards.
|
RE: PA Elk
did he drop right in his tracks or run? Those noslers do some good work!
|
RE: PA Elk
I'd do it in a heartbeat. But I've also heard that's it not really hunting...I mean like out west elk hunting. There are viewing areas where people watch them all year. Then some get tags go to the viewing area and pick out the one they want.
You guys who have done it, tell the story, and straighten us out if incorrect. |
RE: PA Elk
The viewing area is off limits to hunting. No, it's not like out west. You dont have to hunt above 8000 ft above sea level. You can walk in, not pack in but it's not exactly pick out one and shoot it either.

He was broadside at 100yds. The shot was just in front of his right shoulder, it went through and blew the heck out of his left shoulder. He bedded for a while and then tried to run on 3 legs without much luck. I actually have the projectile that was lodged on the inside of his left shoulder. It stayed pretty much intact. |
RE: PA Elk
gr8atta2d, I have not hunted out west to give a good comparison. What I can tell you is that it is not like hunting whitetail deer. The viewing areas are off limits, which is where some the biggest racks are hanging out. Some of the animals out of the viewing areas have contact with humans so they are not as spooky as a western elkthat maynever see or smell a human.

RE: PA Elk
Nice elk there Stone Mtn.!
I'll bet that is one beautiful mount. Did you employ a guide? And would you mind if I ask how much they charge? |
