PA Elk

Just curious if anyone on here applied for a PA Elk license. If so, good luck... the odds are against you.

You have Elk in PA?

Yes. In northcentral PA there are elk. We even have an elk hunting season, but there are very few licenses given out, and there is a lottery-type method for getting an elk license. Very few people get the chance to elk hunt in PA.

That's cool there are elk! I've read of some places in the NY possibly reintroducing Elk (Adirondacks and Catskils). It's very interesting to me. How often do you see elk? What areas in Central PA are the Elk located?

Western Elk County, most of Cameron County, northern Clearfield County, western Clinton County and southwestern Potter County are the areas where you are likely to see an elk.

The best area is located around Medix Run, Benezette, Winslow Hill and Grant in southeast Elk County.

Back in the mid-late 90s there were years when i would see more Elk inrifle season than deer.

I remember one year i had 2 big bulls milling around for over an hour within 75 yards of my stand.

I sent mine in again. The PGC claims they work on preference points, I'm not sure if they really do or not but I've been sending in since they opened the season. Hopefully, one of these years I'll get lucky and draw.

I've seen a ton of elk in this area.. most in the Hicks and Medix run areas....
