Took my son out Sat. & today. Just got back about 1hr ago. Needless to say it was the worst youth wknd we've had yet. I had several birds scouted out in 3 areas. 9 jakes alone in 1 spot. But unfortunately we never found any of them, or heard a single gobble. I'm sure the crappy weather played a large part of it. Friday I heard a tom gobbling at 11:30am in that 70 degree sun. Fri evening I watched 3 jakes head for their roost 15 mins before dark. Sat. we awoke and hadn't started raining yet. But by the time we were in the woods at dawn, it was coming down in sheets, and gusting winds. We stuck it out for as long as he could stand it. He was soaked to his under britches. I thought for sure the weather would bring them tose jakes out into the field. NOT.
Today we awoke to more rain, and my son decided we'd wait for it to break up. Once it did we headed out, saw a few birds moving through the woods ahead of us. But beyond that nothing. Still no gobbles, or any action. Pretty disappointing for him.
