Weapon used:.308 Winchester - 150Gr. Barnes X bullet WMU Killed In: 3B Date: November 28 # of Deer Seen: Anywhere's from 1-10 whenI hunted. Seen more during archery season, but that's normal. Would have to sayit's been apositive year for me as far as deer sightings go. |
Best Year of my hunting career! (but does'nt reflect how the woods were.)
I had the best Hunting ever!!! I hunted almost every day of archery and rifle season. I saw next to nothing except what I shot. My success is by no mean a true reflection of howlow the deer encounters were.(HORRIBLE, PITIFUL, etc...)
All my trophys were taken in the Extended Bear and rifle season. 1 Bear in extended bear season (1st day ofbuck/extended bear) 1 Large 5 yr old 8-point buck in rifle (last day of rifle) 1 Large 6yr old buck that lost its horns a week or so earlier and had to be tagged a doe (last day of rifle). Killed in WMU- 1A Weapon:Compound Bow # of Deer- 2 ![]() 3.5yr old doe Killed in WMU-5B Weapon:Compound Bow # of Deer- 2 ![]() 2.5yr old buck - 7 scoreable points 12 1/8th inch spread Killed in WMU- 1A Weapon: .308 Winchester # of Deer-5 ![]() 3 for Me, all of which were killed in State Parks. Overall i saw less deer in general, however i saw an enourmous amount of bigger bucks which is fine by me. I didn't keep an exact count throughout the whole season except the days i shot deer. Overall, i would guess around 25-35 doe(which is down from about 50-60 from last season) and 15 different bucks including the one i shot the first day of rifle. It was a banner year for larger bucks, as i saw three bucks during archery that im sure would make Pope and Young with 2 others that would have been very close. |

RE: Total kill count for PA
Nice one BT.
Don't shoot doe in our area didn't kill any buck 4 deer sighted in archery season 0 deer sighted in rifle season This was in good thick habitat in WMU 2E withplenty of food.I knew the populations were low going in but was hoping my scouting would pay off. It's really tough hunting in an area with deer numbers so low.I'm hoping to find a lease in my area but that's not easy.Soon it might be time to take the dive and head out to the southwest and stay in a motel. That sucks when you have so much money and hard earned time in a cabin but if you want to continue hunting deer these a days ya gotta do something. Out of state might be another option. |
RE: Total kill count for PA
[>:]Get the check stations going . Untill they do that and get the right cout on what's being killedand stop the guessing game.

Weapon Archery...9 point 11/11/05
Rifle doe 12/5/05 Area: 3C Deer sightings: In archery 6-18/day Hunted the last week of archery with another guy and we saw total 17 different buck between the two of us. Rifle season: I hunted with the bow the first day and saw 6, ironically the only shot I had was at a small legal buck. We hunted the 2nd week of rifle. We saw buck every day including 4 shooters of which we got one. Saw several smaller bucks and quite a few doe. It was funny because reports of "my hunting neighbors" for the first week indicated that there were no deer left. Very few sightings and little sign. After it snowed on Friday (after they all left) There was deer and deer sign everywhere. ![]() |

Deer Shot: 0
Weapon Used: 30-06 & .50 cal Flintlock WMU #: 3B Days Hunted: 5 # of deer seen: 1-5 per day From my logbook: Opening day of rifle, I passed on a 6 point at 20 yards (got so close because of the heavy fog.) This buck hung around my treestand for over 45 minutes before it was chased away by some approaching noisy hunters. It was the only deer I saw that day. 2nd day of regular firearms season, I saw 0 deer. First Friday of rifle season, I passed on a 5 pointer thatwas within 45 yards of my treestandfor at least 20 minutes. Only deer I saw that day. First Saturday of rifle, I saw 1 doe. Yesterday, I hunted flintlock, and I saw 12 deer (9 of them while driving to/from) our hunting spot. I could have shot a large bedded deer from ~50-60 yards that I walked up on while putting on a small silent mini-drive to my Dad along with my borther.I could not seethe deer's head to tell if it was buck or doe before it spooked and bolted. It was definitely a VERY LARGE deer, and I supsect it may have been a big buck. Sadly, I saw almost as many coyote and bobcat tracks as deer sign while walking the woods. The deer population is patheticly low in 3B this year. - Gr8ful |
