RE: Marylanders, How did shotgun/rifle season go?
ORIGINAL: G2 Shooter Well boys, I'm heading out to that new spot I scouted. I hope it all works out today. Good luck Doug. |
RE: Marylanders, How did shotgun/rifle season go?
Well,
I didn't see a single deer! In fact, I didn't hear a single shot. I think you really have to get in that thick stuff since they are probably skittish from being shot at and don't risk going in the open. Where I'm at borders some thick areas, but that wasn't good enough today. The guy at the check station (Bud?) said one guy brought in a doe. Beautiful morning though, I really enjoyed just being out there. How did you guys do? |
RE: Marylanders, How did shotgun/rifle season go?
DW, I didnt' think you were going out today. Hope you had better luck than I did.
Like Doug, I didn't see a thing. Not even a squirrel! When I got down there were fresh droppings all around my stand and I even saw a fresh scrape! (?) I'm thinking they are totally nocturnal now that they have been shot at. I was going to make it an all day thing but after this morning decided that I should do some shopping instead. LOL I think I am done for the year. I might go out late in Jan but I've about had it for this season. I wonder if the doe was bowshot because I didn't hear a thing all morning. I asked him the same question when I was checking out. |
RE: Marylanders, How did shotgun/rifle season go?
I heard 3 shots today what sounded like muzzleloaders. And a semi-auto that shot 3 times. 2 of the shots sounded like they came from G.

RE: Marylanders, How did shotgun/rifle season go?
I got there a little late today. I had to make sure my oldest made the bus. He didn't, i had to take him to school. I got in the woods about 7:30 And at 8:49 a buck came walking in front of me at 40 - 50 yds. I picked up my gun and put the scope on him and saw he was only a spike. Nice size body for a spike though. I would guess he weighed around 80-100lbs. his left antler was about 6" long and his right side was broke off to about 2". I watched him through the scope for a bit and he stopped and looked right at me. Then continued walking circleing me to my left. Anywhere else but meade and i would of had him in the freezer.

Did you see those pictures on the wall inside? There's one there of a real nice buck shot on the central tract. I like this management program and hope to see bigger bucks in the coming years. I did see a few borderline shooters this year and only went out four times. I might get out one more timein southern Maryland with my buddy. He's going to work on my shotgun to get it sighted in.
