What is ment by trying yes but breeding no is that a doe has to be in estrus to successfully breed.

Looks like he's doing ok to me , and I don't think he really cares if she's ready or not ... ;)

Could be, perhaps 1 in a 1000 could come into estrous early for some strange nature reason but I'd put my money on the chance he's trying and she's not receptive yet....a buck will breed year round if he could but the rut doesn't happen until the does come into estrous.

I sure hope he's not "keepin' it all in the family," so to speak.

They sure do look an awful lot alike. LOL

You sure they are breeding or a couple of gay does?

In the deer world, the buck is ready to rock and roll once his antlers harden. The doe is who dictates when and where, though. Bucks mount does, each other, about anything that will hold still, whether its successful or not. Does will also mount other animals. Its simply a sign of assertiveness and dominance.

Poor sucker hasen't leard how to follow the sent of a woman yet. I bet if you put out a decoy doe. You will have a spike in the freezer in no time.[8D]

Hmm, interesting to see something like this happening early but as stated above, sometimes it can happen early...depending on the doe.

Bill Yox 09-22-2005 01:06 PM

RE: NY buck breeding doe pic 9/10/05

Its really not happening at all, trust me! Deer mount each other all year long, in every month, males and females on other males and/or females...honest! Not all mounting is copulation...

Shoot, Im sorry guys, I got sidetracked and hit the submit key too soon. To finish my thought, if he were to actually be impregnating that doe would put a fawn on the ground next spring in late March or early April.

Still, a funny photo nonetheless...

The scent makers bottle up estrous doe urine as early as September in some cases.

This isn't the norm, but it does sometimes happen. The bucks are actually sterile until their antlers harden and are ready anytime after that until antler drop. The does readiness dictates the rut.

Since this doe is standing still and not trotting away like you usually see from a non-receptive doe, I'd say she was one of those rare "early birds."

The reason the urine guys get early estrus urine is not because of early doe cycling. Does dont cycle that early, fawns would be born too early. Urine collectors induce the cycle with implants and hormone shots, like CIDRs and PMSG, pregnant mare serum.

Just for an interesting aside, when bighorn sheep fight, the looser doesnt drop down to next-best status like a whitetail. He actually drops all the way down to the lowest rank in that bachelor group, and needs to fight his way back to status. Once he loses to the dominant ram, hes then false mounted by all the other rams, as a way of showing their dominance over him. Trust me, this stuff IS real.

snoop doggy style...the guy that wrote earlier is correct...bucks can and will breed once they come out of velvet...i do not think that this is a successful breeding attempt. if it is...it would never work out in the end...the fawn would be born in dec-jan. it would not make it
