Many of the teachers around here quit after a few years and go into the private sector for more money and better jobs. Good teachers are hard to find and the future of our childrendepend on their profession. Just my opinion though.

No offense but that statement is just plain wrong. Teachers loose pay for every day they strike.

The state mandates 180 school days per year if there is a strike those days will be made up and the teachers will be payed at the new rate after the strike is ended.

This months Readers Digest has a story about teachers .Here in PA 25% of our teachers failed the statcompetency test.With tenure none can be fired. In the real word if you don't like your job,not satified with the pay or don't like the benefits you find a better job.

I would like to know what percentage of the teachers that couldn't pass the state competency test are teaching in Philadelphia. I would imagine that it is pretty high. It is hard to find teachers willing to work in Philadelphia, so I am guessing that they can't be too picky with who they hire, meaning that they don't get cream of the crop teachers there.

Also, no one is debating that teachers will get paid for their 180 days, whether that is true or not I have no idea, the issue is whether or not they are being fairly compensated for the work that they do.

Maybe they should work in a field that pays what they think they are worth.
Black mailing taxpayers is not right.With all of the education & dedication these people have finding a real job should be a snap,Of couse they would have to give up that three month summer vacation & work full time.
