RE: First NY turn down for DMP's...
I hope to at least get one DMP...I've always gotten two every year since I was old enough to deer hunt. It's a pain in the butt where I live, one side of my road is 8P and the other is 8R. I hope they still give out a bow/muzzleloader antlerless tag with the Supersportsman. What I can't understand is... if they're cutting back so muck on the doe permits in Regions 8 and 9...then why are the still giving all the nuisance permits out to all the farmers? A vastmajority of them that I know don't even need them...they just get them because they can.

RE: First NY turn down for DMP's...
ORIGINAL: Puddy Does CWD make you nervous in that area, close to Oneida County. My nephew goes to Cazenovia college and hunts in the area also. How about any other hunters out there? Most of the guys i hunt with think its all a big joke and just a cover up. and I do live in Oneida County, actually the next town over is in one of the areas that has to report deer in to check stations. but for the most part , I only Bow hunt and Buckhunt up here, otherwise its a 45min drive to about a mile out of Cazenovia where we do all of our hunting. (7J, my first choice). And Besides, the land owner usually gets us some Nuisance permits down there, and last year we saw 6+ bucks and took something like 9 does between the 6 of us...most of which went 130 or better...I love Caz. |

RE: First NY turn down for DMP's...
There have been some conflicting information from DEC officials that I have spoken with on the drawing system. The majority have said that the second drawing permit %'spertains to successful or non-successful1st drawing on those regions with the nil 2nd chance... A few have stated the system would block attempts for a second drawing if there was a 0% chance of getting one, in order to prevent people from "betting on the impossible" as one said.
You'd think the brains that make up the system would already have a backstop in place, but I've heard both sides from the DEC. |

edit.
That stinks. |
RE: First NY turn down for DMP's...
I went for both my tags in 8R. I recieved one. You do still get an either/or and Anterless for bow/Muzz. There is a shot at a bonus draw in October if they don't sell out, but I'm not counting on it.

RE: First NY turn down for DMP's...
I usually hunt 4F, if you don't have a preference point, you can't even apply for one. I have a nephew who goes to Cazenovia college, he hunts there, I would send there for permit, but I am nervous about the CWD, even though they say not to worry. I am not sure where to go now.

RE: First NY turn down for DMP's...
Sounds like you have a hot spot, good for you. I wishwe could find a spot like that where we hunt in 4F. Doesn't look like I will get a DMP this year. I got won last year, never saw a deer with the shot gun. Went out with the muzzle loader I bought last year, never got a chance with that either. I am a big bowhunter mainly, I usually always get one or two bucks a year with that, last year i got skunked. 1st. time I can ever remember getting skunked with the bow since 1990. I live in the northern region, I go to camp on the weekends with the hunting party, only out of tradition, I would rather be in my stand with my bow where i hunt in the Southern region though. I am not sure where to try for a permit this year, like i said, kind of nervous to hunt close to the CWD zone.
