Default Archery Safety Zone Question

What is the distance from a building you need to be when using a bow. I know they changed it a few years ago but I didn't memorize this number as we always hunt in the big woods. However, we've moved to a suburban area with an abundance of deer. Also - does this distance also refer to your property? Meaning: would I have to be at least 50 yards from my own house?

The distance is 50 yards with some exceptions....daycares, cemetaries, playgrounds, etc.... That is still 150 regardless of weapon. As for your own property, I believe that you can hunt wherever you want as long as it is done in a safe and thoughtful fashion.

Frank is correct. As far as you're own house, you can sit on your roof if you want to....as long as you're 50 yards from you're neigbor or have their permission to hunt within their safety zone.

Jason, are you absolutely sure on this? I still thought it was 50 yards from any house. If you are right, I'm sitting on my deckfrom now on....

Looks like you guys are right. I just found this in the PA Game Digest:

"It is unlawful to hunt for, shoot at, trap, take, chase or disturb wildlife within 150 yards of any occupied residence, camp, industrial or commercial building, farm house or farm building, or school or playground without the permission of the occupants".... "The safety zone for archery hunters statewide has been reduced from within 150 yards of any occupied residence....to 50 yards."

I guess as long as i give myself permission, I can legally set up on my deck and/or roof andsmoke one.no more cold feet for me....

Thanks guys....

She wouldn't care. She's already helped me gut out a deer before. Her concern would only be that we didn't pizz off the neighbors. I really don't think I'll hunt on our property but the woods down the street are another story. Not posted, but behind a school. Could be a sticky situation. The school is several hundred yards away, though.
