I'd definitely look in the Knox/Holmes county area. That area consistently produces huge bucks. My buddy takes a nice buck off state land there every year. Last year he shot a typical 10pt that was in the upper 160's off that state land with a bow AFTER gun season.
While rabbit hunting in that area this year we saw 100+ deer every day. Many on public land in the Mohican State Park.
Only problem is that 1,000 acres in that area will run you about $2 million if you find a good deal....LOL

E...I wasn't joking too much on that price. That's only $2000/acre. )ONLY) It's going for around $5-7K an acre here, and I live in the middle of nowhere.
If you buy a bunch here, it's going for $3k/acre...with farmers buying all they can get a little north of here for $3500/acre.
It's getting tough to find a deal in central-northcentral Ohio.

Down the road from where I live ( Licking County ), there is 100 acres for sale that has been all timbered out and is no good for anything, with about 15 acres of field that is all grown up with briars etc., and a small old ranch house on it for mere price of $600,000.00!!!![:@]

The price of land around here is ridiculous. First of all, it's tough to find anything over 50 acres, and when you do the price is sky high. And if you're looking for something within an hour of Columbus, forget it. Even far southeast Ohio is crazy. About the only way for an average guy to buy hunting land anymore is to team up with a bunch of others in order to have enough buying power.
