Wisconsin rut activity
Seems like we still have a bit to go. Saw a little bit of chasing, but the big bucks we saw were still disinterested in does. Some grunting/fighting going on.
Once things cool down towards the weekend it should be good. |
went shining the other night and saw a cuple of bucks chaseing does in columbia county wi
Checking in from Southern Marinette County: a few "incidental" scrapes found over the last week...cameras on them to see what is shaking; otherwise I haven't seen much chasing yet.
South West Wisconsin here. Things are just starting to get going. Have had several people around have mature deer checking does, no chasing however. Does will have none of it. Still be a while before its really rocking. It was over 65 here today so we need that cold front to hit.
Saw a small buck make one scrape, and hit another already made scrape this morning. The big ones will be starting up soon....
I got several big boys hitting the scrapes by me. Got close to closing the deal tonight but was just too far of a shot
Coming back home from the woods today almost hit a decent 3 1/2 year old buck chasing a doe across the road. This was around 10am!!! Pumped the chasing has begun

I am in northern Indiana and have seen nothing so far.... all the corn is still up though.
I hunt in portage county
I sat Saturday morning for three hours, Saturday night for four hours and this morning (Sunday) for three hours. All I saw was one spike and two does. Hunted the same stand both mornings and a different stand by a creek Saturday afternoon. Pretty puny for me so far.
I also had my camera on a scrape for a little over a week. Not a single picture... |
Price county is just starting. I saw 1 rub in several miles of scouting. Not many deer neither.
Saw a big buck and a doe just standing in a hay field at 8:00 a.m. just outside of Delavan this morning.
Had a doe with two fawns come by tonight. One fawn gave me a shot, so I tagged it.
Don't does get rid of their fawns during rut? |
My wife saw a buck chasing a doe across a field at 9:50 this morning.
ruts in full swing by me in columbia county went hunting with a friend and had a nice buck come in then he went behind a bush then a doe walked by and he never saw him again
Saw two 130" bucks chasing a single doe across a fallow field at 8am earlier this week. I was amazed. (St. Croix county)
TONS of scrapes in upper Polk county, but no daytime rutting activity seen besides very young bucks checking does. |
The bigger bucks were on there feet this morning. I saw one at around 7:30 and a real nice one at around 9:15. Both were in fields.
Had two chasing does around me tonight around 5. Not sure how big they were because I never actually saw them, but lots of grunting and branches breaking
Here in Wisconsin Rapids I saw lots of feeding does, and a few small bucks up til about 28 oct. Then it all went flat. I sat 3 mornings and evenings without a sound. I took the past 2 days off to maybe let the woods cool down. This morning must have been a good one, I saw some big bucks hanging from meat poles. We will see what happens in the morning. Ill be in my tree for sure!

I'm seeing does out in the field eating but no bucks chasing. Had a spike come through tonite, grunting and two does followed a half hour later. Seems the fawns have been run off so it is real close if not here. I'm in Dunn county, WI.
Saw 3 does running fast past my tree this am. A big black wolf right behind them. We have seen this animal before, on several ocasions. But something didnt look right about it this time. Im thinking its either a wolf dog, or a wild dog all together. Big animal for sure, but the front legs look too short for a wolf.
Where around Wisconsin Rapids were you when you saw this wolf?
By 17th ave. Everyone that hunts the area has seen it. And the albino deer living there too.
I've heard about the albino from buddies that hunt in city limits.
Theres 4-5 of those albinos now. Ones a 6 pointer. They move around some. They wander in and out of the city limits.
The does were bedded with the bucks in real thick cover this morning. I did a little push for my sons today and the count coming out was one forker, 3 mature does, one youngster, and a coyote. I did asecond push and turned out a mature doe, and a larger buck. Didnt get a good look at him though as he cut out 100 yards before the end. I can say it was a big bodied deer, and 6 or better.
No shooting today, but we have freezing rain tonight and 2-5 inches of snow tomorrow. More pushing I think, I never have good luck sitting while its snowing. |
Another afternoon of nothing for me. That makes five consecutive sits of not seeing a deer. I hunt on the south side of Rapids in Saratoga.
Tomorrow we should have snow, and more on the way. Im gonna find a track and see whats at the other end of it.

I sat till 11:00 this morning and only had one spike buck come in. I then went and scouted and still hunted some public land and ended up finding these.

Looks like some good genes in them thar woods! Go get him buckchaser!
It's great to finally see snow! I also love to go for walks in the woods, find tracks, and then follow them. I get done with work at 3PM and the snow should be tapering off by then, so hopefully I can find some tracks!
Buckchaser- those sheds have some mass to 'em! Have you seen any heavy horned boys around you this year? |

Got nothing but soaked today. The snow was so heavy, falling in chunks from trees, that finding a track was impossible.
Today was kinda wierd. Falling snow, so I figured the deer would be laying down, which they were. It was loud moving around with frozen slush everywhere, but I saw 5 deer in the first hour, all pared up, and one single. I was pretty close before they bolted, except for a pare that I saw from 60 yards away. One was standing, watching me, so I decided, since they were too far out, that I would play with them a little. I put my bow on mu head like antlers, and made extra noise, and kinda milled arround and grunted as I walked closer. They let me get 40 yards away before I drew, shot, and killed a twig... and some marsh grass! Oh whell, theres always tomorrow!
After last night and this morning, that makes seven straight 3+hr sits of not seeing a thing. I have to be the un-luckiest hunter in WI!
I was seeing deer almost every sit pre November. |
havent been hunting on my land yet and yesterday i set up some blinds and there was tracks every where alot of bigggg ones
Cool Dejager! Rifle seasion right around the corner too! I got no problem finding tracks, it seems the only way I see deer in the last month is to drive them out. I got no problem shifting geers and pushing the rest of the year. I realy like sitting in a tree better though.
