Default Ever hunted in Zone 9 in Iowa?

Was VERY lucky this year and drew an archery tag in Zone 9 for Iowa. The only problem is I live in Mass so scouting before the season is impossible. Going to use a guide/outfitter and my friend has talked to a Dana Foote who for a pretty hefty $2g will " get us into deer" , but we have nothing signed. I' m WIDE open and would talk to ANY outfiiter/guide or property owner who wouldn' t mind working with 3 hardhunting archery guys who ALWAYS leave a place better than we found it.

Does anyone have any info on this particular zone? Know this Dana Foote? Or having any recommendations on people to talk to?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

I had to check to see where zone 9 is. I hunted that area for years during IA first shotgun season, but now I only hunt bow and m-loader and usually hunt closer to home. Before you spend a lot of money, get a map and e-mail me. I would be happy to help. When you coming? Jim

I' ve got the map part down, and now trying to learn everything I can about the area. It doesn' t seem as outfitter/guide rich as Zone 5, which is fine in my book.

The sad part is I' ve only talked to 2 people so far about property I can hunt for cash. 1 is $2,000 the other is $1250. The 1250 place is a farmer who is giving access to his families 3500 acres and sounds pretty good so far.

Thanks for the offer 2eagles .. I' ll give you a shout via email.

MA Jay, I have hunted zone 9 for years and yes tags are getting really hard to draw. When I first started going we would draw every year, now it's evry 3rd year if your lucky. I don't know what part of the zone your hunting, but the Lansing wildlife area is pretty good. When are you going to be there? The farm I used to hunt got sold, much to my dissapointment, but I was able to find another and it wasn't cheap. A lot of farmers will let you bow hunt if you sweeten the pot, but you'll have to knock on a lot of doors, imo it's worth it.

From my standpoint, Iowa is the easiest state in the country to get free permission to hunt. I highly recommend knocking on some doors first. You are stepping back in time in some of those rural areas. They allocate very few tags to nonresidents so they are not over run. I had a buddy knock on 5 doors in zone 5 and get 5 yesses. He had way more land to hunt than he could cover. One of the farmers ever drove out his stands for him on his ATV.

Is $2g for a lease? or for a guided hunt?

I believe the going rate for a whitetail hunt is about $3g/week

what part of the state is zone 9? I don't have a map in front of me, I believe any of the southern or eastern units are the hot spots.
