Wow, what a massive ripoff. $100 for "assault weapons"? what, like AR's that go for $1000+??? you'd have to be stupid, or the gun would have to be JUNK.

The only thing that ever gets turned in at these things is rusted out firearms that look like they were in floods, Antique firearms and guns that don't even work. They did one of these in a nothern suburb a year back and they got nothing but junk that wouldn't even work. One lady brought in 2 flint lock pistols that were absolutely beautiful that were probably worth a grand a piece but since they were turned in they had to be destroyed.

Anything that looks close to working they usually run ballistics on to see if it was used in a crime so even if it was a gun used in a crime, no one wants to turn it in. I don't know if they will do ballistics on these firearms but I know they have done them in some of these turn ins.

I actually was at 7 11 today getting my morning coffee and they had a handout for you to call a number and DONATE $10 to this fund. Unreal. I hope this turn in works, but I highly doubt it.

Good post saluki, its good to show people that don't live in the city the things that go on in this city.

It's a shame when they destroy guns. Another example of the system failing. I seriously doubt any criminals show up to turn in theirs. On the other hand maybe a few firearms that would potentially be stolen then used in a crime get taken out of service. Still a shame though.

They should also target knives, bats, cars, golf clubs, etc.
