good luck fellow hoosiers. Hoosier I know you can hunt Raccoon lake, Cecil Harding same place. Its south on hwy 231, then hwy 36 west. Probably take ya 45 mins to get there. If I can get permission from a buddy of mine, I might be able to get ya a couple evening hunts with me on Sugar creek in Parke county.. Its still a 30 to 45 min drive for ya...

bigtim6656 09-20-2009 06:47 PM

If your talking to me no proplem. I just need someone to hunt with :sad0064:
Though i my have a younger cousin in sullivan but still not the same. It will be nice to past atleast the very limited knowlege i have to another young hunter. I would have killed for someone helpping me as akid i would have stayed in it.

It is great to hear from all of my fellow Hoosiers. I will be hunting on my parents property in Monroe county. I am watching this great buck who I swear you could set your watch to. He comes out of the woods and into this field at 8:30 AM almost every day.

Anyone taking a youth hunter out for the special youth hunt this next weekend? I think it is great that the kids get their own time in the woods, although I am sure there are a lot of adults doing the shooting and kids tagging.

HooSIER|Hunter 09-21-2009 03:05 AM

Yes, I am taking my 13 year old step son, we are going to be in a blind looking over small food plot should pay off for him.

HooSIER|Hunter 09-21-2009 03:08 AM

Its getting closer

The Outdoorsman 09-22-2009 08:05 AM

Good luck guys. I will be back on our properties in Switzerland Co. as soon as the first weekend if the weather stays cool. Cant wait to be sitting in the woods with my bow in hand.

bowhunter1984 09-22-2009 12:40 PM

About two miles north of Moorefield.

HooSIER|Hunter 09-23-2009 03:50 AM

I hunt about 10 miles north of moorefield, so your right around pleasant

The Outdoorsman 09-23-2009 08:28 AM

Yep, Pleasant is the last "town" I go thru before I turn off the highway. I cant wait to go back thru there again, that means Im on my way to go hunting!!!!! Sorry, having withdrawls. :D

HooSIER|Hunter 09-23-2009 05:11 PM

Yes I am excited as well, we are hunting about 5 miles apart it sounds like.

The Outdoorsman 09-24-2009 04:15 AM

Yeah it does. You going to be in the woods opening weekend? Im really considering it since the temps are supposed to stay down as of right now.

D Rock 09-26-2009 09:56 AM

Anyone have success this morning with the youth hunt?

HooSIER|Hunter 09-29-2009 08:12 AM

Yes, I will be in the woods opening weekend. I took my step son out Sunday and the ones we seen where a little to far out of his comfort range and he didn't want to take the shot.

The Outdoorsman 09-29-2009 09:12 AM

Well hopefully he can get one later in the season. Everything is packed and ready to be loaded up on Friday and head south after work. The anticipation of being in the woods is killing me.

HooSIER|Hunter 09-29-2009 01:23 PM

Yes, I know what you mean going to wash my clothes and get my gear all loaded up tonight.

bigbuckOO 09-29-2009 08:57 PM

I'll be hunting the same small property in cass county that i have hunted the past 8 years or so. May do some hunting along the riverbottoms up in Marshall county again this year too in shotgun season if i'm lucky. Kinda had a down year on my main property in cass county last year, there were no corn crops last year there and it hurt. This year it is all corn so i expect a better year.

indiana/arrower 10-03-2009 06:39 PM

ive been seeing lots of deer, i love this time of year!

Parrot Head 10-05-2009 10:25 AM

I am about 5 miles from Morefield my self. Are there any processors down there? I couldnt find one on Sunday. I will not go to the one in Pleasant bad expericence. I had a deer to drop off Sunday and of course no one is open on Sunday. I sure do miss Rob at the Old Pleasant School House.

bigbuckOO 10-05-2009 08:16 PM

Have not been out yet, drove by the property this evening and seen 3 doe standing right in the driveway. Then had a buck run in front of me going from one cornfield to the other. Too dark to get a good luck but looked like a smaller buck. All the corn is still standing and there is a ton of it. 4 large fields all around the woods. Once it's gone things will be great. I'll probably stay out of there until he starts picking which is usually mid October.

To my knowledge Im not aware of any processor near Moorefield. Didnt know there was one in Pleasant. Amish running it??? We process our deer now because of lack of processors down there. I do recall a processor being west of the School House but I think he shut down as well. Dont know why, thats a money-maker down there.

I had a slow weekend, found a dead coyote and saw one doe. But I did call in a coyote on Sunday morning but couldnt get a shot off as he came in so fast and picked my off as I tried to look over my right shoulder to see what he was going to do. I left early sunday with a major headache and just not feeling good and I noticed alot of beans being pulled in. We still have a bean field to the east of us that needs pulled but other than that, there is some corn further east needing to be pulled and everything else is in. It will be better once the beans and corn are pulled.

Parrot Head 10-07-2009 06:43 AM

Rob lost his lease at the school house. Good thing was he lived right there and was there at all hours and you could check it in there and have it processed. And then get some breakfast. They have great B and gravey.

Going to be making a trip up to Indiana for an early nov deer hunt. Leaving south florida on Nov.3 will hunt the 5-9. Am just now getting excited can't wait for it to get here. Grew up in Laporte but have leaved here in florida now since 1994. Looking forward to the cooler weather we have set record highs down here 6 of the last 7 days it has been a long summer. Will be hunting around the prieceton area. Good luck to you all. Jerry

Pat Curtis 10-11-2009 07:18 PM

Went and scouted a new woods yesterday. Rubs on every other tree and 3 scrapes...with one being absolutely beat up! I'm pumped!!

ACutting 10-12-2009 08:13 PM

Glad to hear your seeing some pre rutting activity. I've been out quite a bit since season opening and haven't seen much yet here in central indiana. Saw what appeared to be a fresh scrap but could have been man made. Other then that nothing yet. I'll let everyone know as soon as I do see stuff though.

Pat Curtis 10-15-2009 06:14 AM

I hung a stand tuesday (actually it was the first time I ever did it by myself). Literally seconds after climbing into the stand to do the finishing touches....a nice doe walked past to my right about 40 yards.

I hope to get out there this afternoon if the weather holds out!

HoosierTom 10-15-2009 06:40 AM

I used a decoy and rattle bag to get this buck in range. He had been fighting pretty good. He had a hole in his back and ear and his leg was messed up from another buck.

The Outdoorsman 10-15-2009 06:53 AM

Congrats on the buck. He's nice.
