we did ok in Pine county. I saw quite a few deer, while my dad saw very few, hunting within about 1/2 mile of each other. We both ended up w/ 2 does each.
During rifle season, there was hardly any shots fired, or so it seemed, of course it was so stinkin cold out though..
next year it should be interesting..

This year deer numbers were down where we hunt in southwestren mn. Even thought i ended up with a nice 145" 11 and a doe. my brother shot 2 does late season. mom shot a spike with her bow (her first with a bow) and dad shot1with his bow.it sounds like we did pretty good but really we didnt our group went home with 5 open tags !!!

Sounds like you got yourself a nice buck there though. Thats the thing, even though we filled our tags for the most part, sightings were down, but I consider us fortunate compared to most we talked to.

yeah it was tough up north...a lot of these woods get hit pretty hard. I'm really hoping to see this area go to a managed rather than intensive harvest next season...which it looks like it will. Private land owners had a field day, but there's no reason us poor college kids hunting public land shouldn't be seeing more deer than we are. Next year should be rough...but I'd be willing to bet my left arm numbers pick up after that. Where about did your friends hunt blackice?

I'm from MI our group does a yearly trip to NW ontario and
Northern Mn (BWCAW) outside of Ely
1st week in NWO was very slow for us with only 1 decent buck,
the warm temps slowed down deer movement considerably
Opening week of MN, weather changed, rut kicked in, and
we tagged out, another good year in MN. Looking forward
to the MN hunt again this year. You all have much better
hunting than MI, so don't despair
