Not sure what side of Indy you live on, I live near Greenwood. You can try Atterbury, Morgan/Monroe State Forest and also try knocking on doors of farmers come spring time to try and get permission to hunt their land. The earlier the better. Good luck.

Attaberry is amazin' deer hunting. I spent a week there with a buddy while my grandma was at the Hoosier Horse Park for a horse show and my buddy shot a good 10 point. I saw a massive 12 but he never came close enough for the shot but I did leave with a doe so I was satisfied. I live right near Morgan-Monroe in fact it is just behind me if you wanna hunt there start scoutin now and get a place found before someone else does, Bow hunting is better out there I think because there are less people then their are during gun season.

Apart from mostly provate land in that area, Ive hunted Morgan/Monroe State State Forest and some areas about 15 miles outside of Bloomington.
I agree about bow season being better than gun hunting, less pressure...But its like that almost anywhere you go.
