Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
To all Wisconsin Archery hunters.....
As the pre-rut/rut approaches I thought it would begood for us to post and report rutting activity on here. Whether it be scraping, chasing, or simply more buck activity, post it here and maybe include the general area/county you hunt. This will keep us all informed with how things are progressing as this "magical" time of year closes in on us. Thanks! |
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Just got back in from the woods here in Dane county, within 10 yards of eachother, I found 3 brand new scrapes. These just happened last night, because they weren't there yesterday when I was out. Still haven't seen much as far as rubs or chasing goes yet.
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
saw a buch of scrapes and some thigh sized rubs yesterday over here in dunn county. The scrapes are popping up everywhere.
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
I won't be huntingtill next weekenddue to the antlerless-only hunt going on,
but amthinking things are starting to happen. I have a 35 min. commute to work and within the last 2-3 days I've noticed more than usual car/deer kills on the highway. Looks like they are starting to move at least around where I live. I hunt in the west-central part of the state and am hoping things get rocking there too. It sounds as if it would be a great time to start some mock-scrapes ? |
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
I noticed alot of car hits on the road also, all does and fawns, but they definately seem to be moving this week.
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
I haven't seen much chasing but i've seen some scraps and rubs
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Scrapes, Rubs getting close.
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Finding fresh scrapes and some serious rubs in Clark County Wi.
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
scrapes and rubs, seeing a lot of yr. and a halfers on their feet nothing big yet
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Hey guys,
I work on the interstate every day. It's amazing how much the car/deer crashes has gone up in the past 2 weeks. Majority of the deer being hit are smaller bucks too. It's just around the corner, and it will get crazy. |
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Nothing too extreme yet in La Crosse County, WI.
Few scrapes, smaller rubs. Bucks moving slow and late. |
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Hey guys,
Just got back from a weekend in Buffalo County. There wasn't a whole lot of deer movement, but we did see a buck harassing a couple of does in a Alfalfa field both on Friday night and Saturday night. Also found a few scrapes and alot of rubs. Didn't see much while on stand though, possibly due to the weather being not the best. In my opinion, we're about a week away yet from more chasing......... |
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
I had a couple of 1 1/2 yr olds running around yesterday in Jackson County.
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Also just got back from the Buffalo/Trempealeau county area. Not much happening yet, alot of corn still standing in the area I was. On the 3 hour drive over there I seen only a handful of car kills, so I would say we are at least a week away. One of those car kills happened to be right across the road from my land, the only thing missing was his head, big body too bad I don't know which one it was though.
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
I thought this would have been a good weekend, with the weather changes. I saw very little deer movement, shockingly little, and only one buck (4pt).
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Anybody have any infromation form around Bayfield county? I'll be up there in 2 weeks.

RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Will be heading up the the Jackson County state forest, near hatfield. Anyone have any new reports as for the rutting activity up there. I know last year my dad and i went up halloween weekend, and all the deer seemed to have moved the weekend before. So hopefully this year will be different. Thanks for the info.

RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Mallardman,
I hunt in Buffalo county which is also in the west-central region where Jackson county is. I really think from what I'm hearing is that this upcoming weekend might be the first weekend of a serious amount of rutting activity. I think from now until mid-november you can't go wrong. My guess is that last year maybe the weather played a role in what you expierienced with deer activity? If your hunting this weekend you should be in good shape. Good luck and let us all know how it goes! |
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
hey thanks, yeah the weather last year was warmer then what it is right now. So, hopefully it will be good. I wish i could stay up longer then just the weekend, but got to work for the FD on monday so. Will let you know!!
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
A big change just since the weekend. I saw two bucks chasing last night, it's not full blown, but if you can, hunt this weekend for sure!
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
would calls like the buck roar work good for this upcoming weekend?? cant wait
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Actually, I think now is the time to "give it all a try". I'll probably
start by doing some soft grunting at first light and maybe build up to more grunting/rattling/buck roar. Also, now is the time to use scents, both on scent wicks around your stand andlay some scent trails too. |
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Well, its close to the end of October here in northern Brown Co. I hunt about 300 acres of mostly agriculture, soybeans, corn and alfalfa, with some tree line and bedding area. Havent seen anything while I have been out but I have captured a few nice bucks with cams, a couple 10 pointers and a nice 8 several 6 and lower, all are coming in between 2 and 4 3:00 a.m.
Was going to include pics, but says "too large" and I dont know how to downsize ....so you will just have to take my word for it! Have a few scrape/rub lines and a couple new scrapes so I will wait it out and go on vacation next week to get one of these big beasts. Anyways...good luck! |
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
I started rattling and calling On Sunday. A smaller buck came in. but he saw me first lol. Then I rattled n called one in on Tuesday. never got close enough. And today. Rattled n called one in. But got dark to fast.
Scrapes are all over the diffrent lands I been hunting on. Rubs aswell. All this was on public lands btw. |
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
a friend of my shot a nice 8pt in dunn county lastnight. we tracket it for about two hours with a nice blood trail. we track him between .5 to .75 miles and still didnt find him. we stop after we got into the swamp. his dod check to see if the blood was still warm and it was. so we decided to let him bleed out overnight and my friend will go looking for him tomorrow. he said he hit the buck right behind the shoulder. the buck was chasing a doe. the rut is on.
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Nothing in our area yet as far as chasing goes. Havent really seen too many trucks with deer being registered in Neillsville. I have property about 10-15 minutes north of hatfield off 95. If you and your dad want something to do Saturdaynight after the hunt, the bowling alley Neillsville has a great band playing this weekend. Amy M band. Ill be there if by chance you want to get together...Thats if youre old enough ;).

RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
hey wis bow huntryeah we might need something to do after the hunt. I will have to run it past him. Sounds good to me, this sux i was hoping that there would be some good rutting goin on. This warm weather is not going t help with the rut either.
|
RE: Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
Yea I hear ya. I sat out lastnight, it hit like 73 at 5 or so and I only saw 3 does. Not within range. I really think were looking at a late rut this year bud. Scrapes are just popping up now, and have not seen any sign of any chasing at all, not even hearing any. Did see 7 bucks on the way home from Wisconsin Rapids yesterday and about 13 does, this between the hours of 2 and 3. but then again, there was no chasing, just out in the fields eating....[&:]
