Wisconsin Rut Reports 2008
#21

Scrapes popping up all over the place now, saw one buck on the oppostie side of the river lastnight not too far behind a doe. I sat and watched them both but he didnt chase, they were just out in the clover eating.

Will be heading up the the Jackson County state forest, near hatfield. Anyone have any new reports as for the rutting activity up there. I know last year my dad and i went up halloween weekend, and all the deer seemed to have moved the weekend before. So hopefully this year will be different. Thanks for the info.

Mallardman,
I hunt in Buffalo county which is also in the west-central region where Jackson county is. I really think from what I'm hearing is that this upcoming weekend might be the first weekend of a serious amount
of rutting activity. I think from now until mid-november you can't go wrong. My guess is that last year
maybe the weather played a role in what you expierienced with deer activity? If your hunting this weekend you should be in good shape. Good luck and let us all know how it goes!

Actually, I think now is the time to "give it all a try". I'll probably
start by doing some soft grunting at first light and maybe build up
to more grunting/rattling/buck roar. Also, now is the time to use scents, both
on scent wicks around your stand andlay some scent trails too.

Well, its close to the end of October here in northern Brown Co. I hunt about 300 acres of mostly agriculture, soybeans, corn and alfalfa, with some tree line and bedding area. Havent seen anything while I have been out but I have captured a few nice bucks with cams, a couple 10 pointers and a nice 8 several 6 and lower, all are coming in between 2 and 4 3:00 a.m.
Was going to include pics, but says "too large" and I dont know how to downsize ....so you will just have to take my word for it!
Have a few scrape/rub lines and a couple new scrapes so I will wait it out and go on vacation next week to get one of these big beasts.
Anyways...good luck!
