What has also helped is that there is a NO SPIKE rule for the county I am in. I am in a DMU area. Puts more bucks in the woods the following year andallows a few more to slip through the cracks and grow yet another year.

what you said is so true, if only more could comprehend. my five year old gets "it".

I hunt 75 acres in Ionia Cty. and 275 in Antrim Cty.
Ionia Cty. small 1 acre clover plot and there is about 25 Acres of crop land
Antim Cty. 5 acre corn plot with 2 - 6 acre alfalfa plots
So far from my minimal experience and trials I have seen a larger impact when my clover plot was whitetail institute clover. This other clover hasn't been hit that hard.

This other clover is very thick and grows very well but the deer just don't seem to be hammering it like they did the whitetail institute clover. I switched cause I was having a hard time with WIClover growing and maintaining growth but that may have been poor fertizing on my part and the fact the deer were on that stuff like flies on ****. Not to mention WIClover is expensive this other clover was like $30 for 25lbs.

a 25 lb bag of whitetail institute will run around $150-175.00
if you check around you will see the good stuff has ladino clover in it and that alone runs around $6.00 a pound or more. BELOW IS STUFF THAT IS VERY ECONOMICAL IF YOU COMPARE INGREDIENTS AND WEIGHT.

Here is the info on the Foodplot seed I use in Northern Michigan. It has the Jumbo Ladino clover along with Chicory & Kopu 2.
http://moabhunting.yuku.com/topic/3376/t/Outfitter-s-Choice-Foodplot-Seed.html

This seed is from Illinois and was tested in Michigan & Wisconsin and Minnesota.
I will have some pictures of my plot shortly....I planted a new one about 3 weeks ago. I have tried whitetail institute and Northern Edge and this blend will beat it out with protein and grows fuller. Deep root system that allows it to grow in sandy areas as well. No fillers in this stuff...just seed
