RE: INDIANA hunters
Seen a BUNCH of small bucks this weekend, mostly alone..but a few paired up still. There was a 5pt going between myself and my buddy this afternoon. He would start walking acrossed the field, then I'd hit the can call. He came back to me 3 times.
I'd like to get a doe in the freezer, just haven't seen many yet. Nothing but smallish bucks, and 1 good one. |
RE: INDIANA hunters
Hunting morgan county for the most part because its closebut also gonna hunt my farm land in Jefferson county whenever possible.Aint seen too many yet this year on the farm but seen alot of sign while squirrel hunting and got a pretty good idea of where they usually run. Goin to scout the property and set my stands in Morgan county this weekend. My cousin has seen afew onthat property that we're hunting there and took a little doe for meat last saturday. Been mainly focusing on getting my deer guns ready for action. Picked up a 357 magPuma M92 rifle forCAS because I just assumed the rules hadn't changed. Went in to pick it up and the guy at the gun store informed me of the new law.So I figure I'lluse that as a brush gun otherwise I'm figurin on usin my muzzleloader.
Anyone else taking advantage of the new law? I have a buddy whoowns a shop inmadison and he's selling the hell out ofthe .44 mag but hetold me he's holding good groups at 200yds with the .500 S&W. Personally,if I hadn't of already bought the m92in 357 mag for a competitionI'd a went for a larger caliber. But I figure the 357 will be good out to about75 yds. |
RE: INDIANA hunters
I used a combination of the Can and Buck Growl tonight, had a wide 6pt all worked up over it. He rubbed every tree he walked past. I made a few mock scrapes on the way to the stand this afternoon, and sprayed some doe piss in them. The 6pt found them, pissed in every one, and destroyed the over-hanging branches. In another year or two, he'll be one big dude. I even thought about pulling back on him since he was so wide..could have drilled him from nearly every angle...all within 15 yards.
Also saw another 6pt basket rack, but was interested in a few does in the field. It's getting weird...MANY different bucks..yet the does are rarely seen. On my way to my truck, kicked up nearly a dozen deer on the edge of a woods our land boarders. They were right next to my truck..within feet of it. They even let me get within 20 yards before scattering. |
RE: INDIANA hunters
Just figured up my totals for the month of October. I am counting morning as one time and evening as one time. I went out 42 times. Hunted 180 hours and saw 223 deer. Way down on the numbers. Saw 290 last year in the month of October.

RE: INDIANA hunters
New weekend, same crap. Was having an ok morning until about 9 when my hunt once again was screwed by the 2 squirrel hunters on the neighboring property. Had to listen to the old man cough up a lung back there. They chased out a small 5 pointer and 2 does. I had seen about 6 does up until that time, nothing after of course. Heard deer snorting everywhere. Nothing i can do about it, they get right up on the line but stay on their property, they have been out everytime i have hunted. I might have to find a new place to hunt in the mornings. Buck sign out there appears to be way down from years past, very few rubs and only 3 scrapes. Planning on hitting my evening spot tonight, hopefully i can put something down. I don't wanna be forced into making that decision tomorrow afternoon on hunting or Pats/Colts.

RE: INDIANA hunters
I went all day yesterday, had a nice buck coming right into my LOS. At 45 yards, a doe ran behind him into a thicket..at which time he turned and followed. Bah.
1 hour later, a group of roughly a dozen does/yearlings/fawns come out into the field. The fawns were jumping and playing in the sun, and were dead nuts right in front of me 20 yards out. The big does were last in the group to move past me, and I picked the biggest one out. She cut the corner, closest she came was 50 yards. Damnit. I finished sighting in my muzzleloader when I got out of my stand. I've been having problems with Triple 7 primers. They pop, but then there is a delay until it sets the charge off...something like a ½ second or so. I switched back to Winchester primers, no problems since. As it turns out, I didn't even adjust my sights...dead on. Today I had to stay home and do a few things around the house. I get the entire firearm season off of work, but I'd like to get one this year w/my bow. I could have shot many deer, but I really don't like wasting tags on fawns/yearlings/small bucks. |
RE: INDIANA hunters
Pretty quiet tonight to my surprise. Seen 3 in the field, but they did not move until almost dark. Couldn't even make out if they were does or bucks. Also had a deer directly behind me, sounded like it was 5 yards and couldnt see it, too frickin dark. Im assuming that one was a buck, that side of the creek is where they stage and glass the fields for does. My uncle and his buddy hunted the same spot friday night and had one of the big 10 points in the field messin with a decoy.

RE: INDIANA hunters
Shot a doe this morning. 25 yards out, pass thru and stuck in ground. She walked 10 yards and i thought for a minue i must have missed, then she just fell over dead. Didnt go 20 yards. Only my 2nd bow kill and my first one in about 5 years. Thank god for the new Fred Bear Code bow i bought this year, so much better then that old High Country i had. I'll try and get a pic up sometime later on.

RE: INDIANA hunters
Pic of my doe, was not a real big one but it did not matter to me. Time to focus on the Bucks from here on out. Did not go out tonight, stayed home and watched the Colts blow it[:@]

RE: INDIANA hunters
I was suprised we hung with the Pats for so long. The gameplan was there, but the oline and dline faded in the end. The (un)Special Teams were just as pathetic as they've been for the past 2 years.
No Marv, Ugoh, Gonzo, Keiaho, and Hagler...and we only lost by 4. Gotta look on the bright side... Nice doe, BTW. |
