Anyone of you guys hunt near Mazon? How is the pressure on the deer there?

Is Grundy County judged to be a a big buck kinda place?

Thanks,

Spring Tom

It depends on where around Mazon you hunt. Around Mazon is ALL private land with some excellent deer hunting. Mazonia is public hunting and I have never heard of anybody getting any big deer there. The private land around Mazonia has excellent deer hunting (both numbers and size).
It depends on Mazon or Mazonia (they are about 10 miles apart) and public or private.

I've never hunted up that way but, when my in-laws lived in Aurora we drove through there on rt47 all the time. Always thought Grundy County offered some good deer hunting landscapes, especially around the river near Morris. If you hunt up there, let us know how you did.

One of my best friends lives in Mazon. He does a bit of deer hunting up there. He comes to Pike County to do most of his hunting though.

I am 20 miles south of Mazon and as a matter of fact my mother is the rural mail carrier in those parts. Odd.

However, you will probably find that their isn't too much pressure around there for the most part. Lots of farmers and people who live in the country. My mother has never actually mentioned much about people hunting there, so I would assume the pressure is rather light. Good luck!

As mentioned you definitely want to avoid Mazonia public land. Most grossly overhunted property I've seen in Illinois, bar none.
