Ill deer hunters ???
I'm kinda confused on how it works there....I was wondering what the cost of a Non Resident archery license is?? And is this for a Doe tag only?? I believe a buck tag is a lottery system and very expensive??
Thanks! |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
It says they are currently out of either-sex permits. I'm not 100% positive, but I thinkthat a non-resident usually recieves both an either-sex tag and an antlerless only tag. I'm not sure how much the tags cost, but you would have to buy the license as well.
http://dnr.state.il.us/admin/systems/index.htmThis is a link to the Illinois DNR website, it says that information on2006 Non-Resident tags is unknown and will be posted so I guess stay tuned to this website. I'm sure there is probably someone on here that knows more. |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Ok I found this info on an outfitters website:
Illinois Non-Resident Archery Permits ($325) 1 Buck Tag & 1 Doe Tag Illinois Non-Resident Firearm Permits ($200) 1 Either-Sex Tag Illinois Non-Resident 5-day Hunting License ($28.75) Illinois Non-Resident Full Season Hunting License ($50.75) Illinois Habitat Stamp ($5.00) It also says that archery permits will be available in July by Illinois DNR I don't see anything about a drawing for a buck tag, but I think that is the way it would be operated. You also MUST have a habitat stamp on the back of your license in order to hunt whitetails. I should warn you though Illinois doesn't have any deer. Go to Iowa or Kansas:D:) UPDATE: http://www.pikeland.com/statepermit.htmlThis explains a little bit about the process. BTW what part of Illinois are you planning on hunting? |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
It cost me $394 for the liscense, permit and stamp. It is going up to around $425 for next season. The outfitters are gobbling up a bunch of these to sell to their clients along with their hunts. Now they are on the lottery system. Kinda bites, I got a nice lease but what if I don't get a liscense? Probably lose my lease. BTW, a Wis, non-res liscence cost $166. I think the cost should be equal between states.

RE: Ill deer hunters ???
GregH,
I feel your pain. I own land in Illinois, but because I am no longer a state resident they want to stick it to me like everyone else. Pretty strange how they keep jacking up the price even though IMO the deer are getting overpopulated in some areas. |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Is hunting becomming only a sport for the rich?
|
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Outfitters cannot buy tags and re-sell to their clients.
In the past(with the first-come, first served phone in)a few outfitters made phone calls on behalf of their clients. With the new system there is no benefit in doing so, the hunter has a month to make the call himself. NR hunters now apply via phone to the DNR during July for their tags. There is currently a limit of 20,000 tags available to NR hunters. 7500 are available for hunters who hunt with licensed outfitters. There are a number of limits attached to these 'outfitter tags'. An unknown number of these were used this year as no one actually knows how many hunters used licensed outfitters. Not all NR tags were sold in 2005. In 2005 NR hunters received an either sex and an antlerless tag for their approximate $375 fees. 2006 fees will be approximately $425 Antlerless tags are available for $25 plus the cost of licenses and permits. PM me if you have further questions re NR tags. Good Luck! |

RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Thanks fellas, kinda expensive aye!!!!!
|
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
I believe NR landowners can get tags for about $75.
Look at the DNR website to make sure. Scroll down and there is a lot of info on NR landowner tags. Good luck! |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
LLBUX,
I don't have the amount of acreage to qualify for NR landowner tags. Pretty frustrating since my "tiny" 19 acres of woods has more habitat and deer than a lot of 100 acre farms. Canoeboy, I'm not interested in leasing my land because I prefer to keep it open forfriends, family, and neighbors to deer hunt on it. Nice try though:) |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
You may get lucky.
Resident landowners must have 40 acres to qualify for a free landowner tag. I looked a bit on the DNR website and could find no such requirement for a non-resident who wishes to buy a paid landowner tag. Good luck! |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
I highly recommed any current Illinois resident to buy a lifetime hunting license. If you end up moving out
of the state you will not be charge the non resident hunting rates per my mother n law, lol. She worked at the state park and was up on the laws. when I moved to Wi the lifetime license was 500 and something and boy I wish I would of gotten it. |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
The $500 was for lifetime sportsmans. You will still have to buy a resident deer permit every year even if your out of state.
|
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Peakrut,
Actually, my Father notified me of the lifetime license loophole, SIX MONTHS after I switched state residency. Now when I go back home I get all these local legal experts telling me that I should put a small shack on my property, get a mailbox, and declare myself a state resident. Yeah, right, that's gonna go over like a lead balloon when it comes time to apply for an FOID card. Federal pen here I come.[:o] |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
I hear ya brother, I did the same thing. I email dnr and they are currently working on changing the loophole.
I have emailed them back and asked if there will be a grandfather clause. |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
I would like to see the acreage requirements for a landowners permit lowered. However, the politicians probably aren't going to be too interested in what a non-voter wants. There would also be the issue of where to draw the line on the minimal acreage. I think that 10 acres would be a nice figure, but the folks with 9.5 acres are likely to disagree.
|
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Residency requirement in Illinois is only 30 days. ;)
What is the current acreage requirements? |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
LLbux said 40 acres which is correct. I have no idea how the state came up with that figure.

RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Hey Lanse...
How about a quick lease for spring turkey? |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Soko,
I don't lease my land since i let a number of friends and family hunt it. If you lived reasonably nearby, I might be inclined to let you hunt it a time or two for free. BUT, I have at least two friends that are already planning ontrying to call turkeys this Spring. And then, I may have to be out there to play referee since turkey and morel mushroom hunting season often overlap. |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Lanse-
I certainly don't want to take away from your friends and family. I'm in the Chicago area, so likely not nearby, but I do appreciate the offer. |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Soko,
If you are interested in driving two hours over to the Quad-Cities area for turkeys, I can give you a tip on some public access Army Corps of Engineers land that you might want to check out. |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Lanse-
I may wind up heading to Missouri to hunt public land. I have to be in Iowa on Mother's Day weekend for a stag party, so I am thinking about heading out early and hunting the last week of MO's season. Is this Army Corp land on the Illinois side or Iowa side? If it's on the Illinois side, I would love to get some info. I've been looking at the Mississippi Pool areas, but don't know how much pressure they get and how productive those areas are. |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Its Army Corps right of way on the Illinois side of the river from Andalusia westward. It is instrips that can be anywhere from 50 yards to several hundred yards wide. I used to live on a spot where the Corps landwas about 200 yards wide and situated at the bottom of the river bluff. Turkeys used tomove thru there all the time. All the houses except one in that area were bought and bulldozed because of flooding. So, it would now be an even better spot unless it has been redesignated.
|
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Hmmm... I may just need to apply for a Rock Island county tag.
I assume you can enter at the Andalusia Slough, and work the river bank. |
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
It is on the slough side of the river, but you coulddrive to within 150 yards of the sport.
|
RE: Ill deer hunters ???
Yes it is expensive.....but Illinois can grow some dam big bucks!!! [:@] I have hunted it for five years now and paid the big ticket and have not hit the big one yet, but my brother killed a huge buck out of my stand in western Illinois, Nice Pope and Young!!!! I guess I'll never go on vacation again during deer season.:(
