RE: i need a place to hunt!!
one thing that might help is let us know the general area of where you live so some that lives in the same area can help you find a spot.

I live about 100 miles from you in the north west corner of IL we have a few very nice public hunting areas out here. and some monster bucks to boot the biggest deer taken in IL the last two years have come from the county i live in.If you need more info check out the IL DNR web site for a list of public hunting land in IL

Here is a starting point on finding public land to hunt in Illinois.

I retired from my job on the south side of Chicago and now live 250 mile south of you. While I lived there I hunted the Kankakee River state park, sometimes it was kind of crowded,so I began going to the Iroquois county state conservation area.I liked that site better, although it was a further drive,I saw more deer, but I haven't been to either place in about 10 years.Have they opened the county forest preserves around Maple Lake to any hunting yet.I know the deer herd was out of control when I left that area? RE: i need a place to hunt!!
hey redneck bill...thanks for the advice ill have to check out iroqois then!!!funny you should mention kankakee st park,im goin thereon a 3 day yote hunt next week!cant wait!!! as far as around maple lake goes....you cant even shoot a red rider there...no hunting alowed at all....but there is a way to do it i think...a good friend of mines father is or was..dont know now...the president of the il archery hunting assosiation. they would commision his group to go thin out the white deer heards over by argon labs, donating the animals to the less fortunate...i would imagine cook county does things like this,i think they would have to theres just so many, every time you drive through the woods you almost take out a whole damn heard!!

RE: i need a place to hunt!!
I've been coyote hunting also! I am from Southern Illinois. If you are looking for hunting ground, do as others advised. Very good advise has been given.
Have you had any luck coyote hunting? |

I have hunted everything else for several years, but never yotes.acouple of weeks ago I went for a walk in my timber and found a bunch of turkey feathers, with them was a 7" beard. I decided I better learn to yote hunt. I have been out a couple of times with a rabbit squeeler, but no success. I would appreciate any suggestions you have to help me get started.I have 98 acres of ground, only 5 acres is cleared so if you or anyone else on this site wants to hunt this ground and help me learn to coyote hunt, your welcome. RE: i need a place to hunt!!
hickabilly,,,,yes i have taken a few yote's back in the day,and even2 in my moms back yard in lemont when i visit...they always are chasin the dog,my step dad has to keep a .22 rifle by the door they are so bad..but i havent taken any this year,i havent been hunting in years...kankakee next week though..ill keep you guys posted on the out come of it..
redneck bill,,,,i can remember a few things from when we used to hunt them in rockford and missouri when i was younger, but im pretty much goin out in the field andlearning myself and goin at it trial and error, like i said i really dont have neone to teach me ....# 1 thing is scent...we usede to use skunk...i havent picked anything up yet for next week though, havent decided what im going to use yet,are you using a cotton tail squeeler? we NEVER had luck with those...tried and true jack rabbit squeeler and a yelper is what we use,i want to pick up a howler and try it out...i hear they are coming in pretty easy this year around the river...a friends father swears by a distresed chicken call...i was thinkin about lookin into that one too...and yes..my friend and i would love to come hunt with you,3 people for coyotes will definatly be alittle harder but i think if we spaced out and dont over call we could do it...we can all learn from each other!! |
