RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
Hey there guys. I hunt in Buffalo County, Wisconsin which is in the
west-central part of the state. I'm hoping to get some input from some other Badger state bowhunters on rutting activity. I think it may be a week or so early yet to see a lot of things going on, but was wondering what everyone else is seeing. This is the time of the year we all wait for! |
RE: RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
Hey drop-tine, I also hunt in Buffalo County. I haven't seen any rutting activity yet, but it should start in a week or two. It's to bad this week is t-zone, because it would have been a good one.

Hey dusters,
How long have you hunted in the county? This is our first yearof land ownership in the county and am curious how past years have been. We have numerous rubs and a few scrapes, but haven't seen any chasing going on yet. What have you seen in the past as to the timing of the start of the rut? |
RE: RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
I hunt in Marquette County and we are seeing a lot of pre-rut activity on our land. I have alot of rubs with a few on good size trees and we have at least three nice scrapes on a 7 acre lot. My dad saw a buck with abouta 16" spread yesterday roaming the land and his budy on the ajoining lot saw a few smaller bucks following a few does. All of what we are seeing is right in line with the past few years which we have had the best luck between Nov. 5-7.

And from Nov. 507 is the BEST time to hunt IMO, most of our bucks are shot in that week. |

Hi all,
I also hunt Buffalo County in Alma. I will be heading up Nov. 4th until gun starts. My other land is near Osseo and as of last week there were plenty of scrapes and rubs to be found. Deer and Deer hunting lists the top seeking period to start Nov. 12th this year. Cybersniper |

Dusters,
Our place is about7 miles south and west of Mondovi. I was sort of thinking thatnext week after the T-Zone will be good based on reports from other hunters I know in that area. Hopefully our area doesn't get much pressure from that T-zone hunt!!!! |
RE: RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
Yeah, the first week of November is always good. I hunt near Waumande.

RE: RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
Hunt in Polk County last weekend had four new scrapes and this weekend they were still worked but lightly. Looks to me like young bucks. I made a mock scrape with dripper this weekend and will start bowhunting this coming weekend. Most people I talked to said prerut has been slow. IMO, to warm.

According to Charles Alscheimer of Deer and Deer Hunting it will begin to peak on Novemer 12, and continue to get better from there. They should be starting their chasing phase soon if they haven't already.

Hi Folks,
New here(not really, look back 2yrs and I was known as buckbuster99)I couldn't help but overhear your conversation and felt compelled to chip in.I hunt 59C about 12 mi E of Arcadia. I think the pre-rut is about over, I saw 4 does tonight, tail-high, looking for a stud.I saw a couple of 130 classtwo year olds, but not the 150 class 3 year olds Iam hunting. I already have a 2 YO on my wall. I actually forgot what my point was, but, jus wanted to stop in and say hi. Hunt smart and be patient. Good Luck. |
RE: RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
I spent a lot of time in our woods in Rusk Co. last weekend, and I'm seeing a lot of sign much like the rest of you. Scrapes are showing up and rubs are back in their usual spots...but what I've noticed thanks to my game cameras is that the fawns are still hanging around with most of the does as of last weekend--meaning they aren't being chased too bad yet.
I'm with the rest of you, though...this weekend is going to be a great chance to get out with a bow--and it's looking like the rut should carry over into the early rifle season too! |
RE: RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
In an area just north of Holmen, I narrowly missed two basket racks with my truck as they crossed a road and then, just a mile later, a 130 class ran in front of me as well. They are definitely cruising tonight. It should be great hunting this weekend plus a little cooler.

RE: RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
Yeah I went shining tonight, and over half the deer I saw were bucks, including to bucks over 150 class...and one that had to be over 180!!

RE: RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
Hoping to get something big this weekend with my bow, that would be sweet. hunting in Ashland county up north, I seen alot of big bucks shining but get them to your stands is another thing. We'll keep on plugging. The weather i hope will be cooler as long as i'm not rained out and the forecast shows rain/snow showers throughout the weekend.
Good Luck men ![]() |
RE: RUTTING ACTIVITY IN WIS.
The rut is definately in full swing. Last week my group saw 6 p+y bucks and around a dozen that would have scored over 110. One of the guys in my group saw 8 bucks in one morning! He passed on a good P+Y 11 and saw three other nice ones.
