I will be archery hunting whitetail bucks on the Republican River right across the border from Colorado. I've got four days to hunt and I was wondering what quality of bucks I can expect to see. Should I pass up a basket buck or will that be the best I will see? I'm looking forward to it - just would like to know what I should be looking for. Thanks for the feedback

The Republican River is a great river for deer hunting (just like any river in the NEB/KAN region). I've never hunted that far upriver, on the Republican, but regardless, anywhere that river goes, you have the opportunity for big bucks. I would deffinately pass on a basket rack, since that means it's just an immature buck. Personally I'd wait for a 120 Class or better. But that's just me. I wouldn't go on a long deer hunting trip, looking for anything smaller.

I used to hunt the republican river outside of benkleman. There are some very nice deer there. I would wait just as kshunter says. Are you hunting through a guide, private, or public land? I have seen some biguns down in there. You can catch some nice muleys wondering through also. Good Luck

I'll be on private land between Haigler and the Colorado border. Fell into a sweet deal with a guy who knows the landowner. Should have almost three miles of creek bottom. We are heading out on 10/13. Thanks for the input.
