10 tons of carp

We met Mr Briney pulling his boats out while we where pulling in.

He had a few fish. :) About 10 tons.. mostly bigheads.

These are huge boats too.

Pretty interesting. :party0005:

Holy Carp !

Did he say how long he was out to get that many? :eek2:

carptracker 04-12-2010 12:38 PM

He usually never stays out for more than about 4 hours, unless it is really cool out, so the fish don't go bad, I'm told. How many guys he have working for him when you saw him?

A recent article in the Alton IL paper said commercial fishermen are netting asians, and having them processed in Pearl IL at a fish market for sale to orientals. They ship them overseas.

Just the guys in the boat and one fella driving the truck and Ryan.

HNI_Christine 04-12-2010 02:28 PM

Briney said these were going to New York. He said the processor just guts 'em, puts 'em on ice and ships them.

Duane, I think he had five guys with him. He said he'll hit this lake until he can't fill the nets in short order. It's the same lake we took you out on last summer. He said there were only about 4 grass carp in the boat. That kind of surprised me. I guess grassies don't like to hang out with the riff-raff bigheads and silvers. ;0)

Did u do any good shooting or just out for a scouting trip? Shot some nice bigheads in this lake before the commercial guys hit it real hard. Have been out a couple of times since and only saw one bighead. I am sure there are still many left. But don't know where.

carpsniper 04-13-2010 06:33 PM

Ryan said "They're up in the weeds." I guess that means backin the trees.

Yeah we shot a few but the main reason for the trip was to test the fan...

Sorry Jerry, since it was the first fan test we figured the less people around the less potential collateral damage. ;)

If we don't blow the boat up down at Rend, we'll probably be back over there next week.
