Oh shut it old man. I shot 3 fish to your 1...... Carrying the team (as usual).

There are a number of bacterial and combined bacterial/fungal infections that can occur that look vaguely like this. This does not look specifically like any of them that I can identify specificaly, but whatever it is, it probably falls into one of those categories. Because it is a silver, and because the blob appears to located primarily on one spot on the head, I suspect this is due to the fish jumping and injuring itself - perhaps hitting a boat. Another way that a lot of silvers in my area get injured and sometimes get infections is chestnut lamprey bites. If this fish had not been shot, it probably would have died of this, slowly eaten alive by the infection.

It may have been his death anyway. It covered almost the entire left side of its head..... inlcuding its eye. The left eye was facing me when I shot so it was not spooked cause it could not see me.:fighting0007:I should have scraped the fungus off the fish to see if it was missing a eye or had a distinct injury but I was more interested in shooting more fish.

Shooting handicapped fish. That's just mean.

NOT! :hit: Thanks for the explaination Duane. Is this something that can be transfered from fish to fish w/o injury? Oh yeah, and Happy Birthday Kyle. |
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Just would have been nice if I didnt spend 5 hours at the dmv on my birthday. Had to renew my license. But what they didnt tell me was i had to take my regular, motorcycle and all 3 or 4 cdl written tests in order to renew. Plus wait in a 4 hour line just to take the tests. What a birthday.:bash:
