Going out looking for fish today.
I know for most spots its a bit early to get em splashing around but with this 50 deg weather i cant help it. Checking some honey holes today to see if I see any fins. Will report what I see or dont see......
|
We wish you luck...
...not too good though 'til I get the boat finished. :p |
lol I hear yah. I need to do some work to mine before the season gets in full swing. Found a few bigheads today nothing really shootable though. Trying again tomorrow. Took some really nice pics with the new camera though. Will post a few after I download em and make em look all pretty in photoshop.
Gota love my neighborhood....... backwater bowfishing package (6 arrow blanks 6 tips) was delivered to my front steps when I wasnt home and in 2 hours it was stolen from my front steps. The thing that really pisses me off is they prolly took it not knowing what it was. They are going to get it home and throw it all away cause to them it junk. :bash: |
That Sucks!!!!!!!
Found a few bigheads myself, there starting to move.. |
Yup. got 3 bigheads and a silver today. They were all moving very slow. The silver had a weird growth over one of its eyes and was kinda spreading to cover one side of its face. It looked like a glob of mud but i tried to wipe it off and it wasnt mud. Picture below.
![]() Anyone have a idea of what this fungus like blob is?? |

Ewwwww!
Nice shootin' tho'! |
Kyle, Congradulations on the first 'CLUB FISH' of the year. It is usually pretty hard to beat Maddam President and her partner for that distinction. Nice going! Slim and a couple of his buddies are down at the tough man tournament as we speak. Well it was last night. I had visions of going until i seen how far down it was. He won it last year, anchious to see how he does this year. I just bought a nice Left handed Oneida for $50 that I set up for my left handed son-in-law. The fish are in trouble this year.
|
Thanks Johnny. I didnt know I got the first but thats pretty cool. I was wanting to get a early start this year.... hopefully the weather cooperates. Went out again today but didnt see anything. Too cloudy...... CPO have been in full force this weekend though. Ticketing lots of people. Anyway hopefully slim does good.

Hmmmmmmm, I notice the youngster failed to post the biggest bighead of the day, shot by dear old dad (as usual) heh heh heh...
I will have to discuss this with him. :):s4: |
Oh shut it old man. I shot 3 fish to your 1...... Carrying the team (as usual).

There are a number of bacterial and combined bacterial/fungal infections that can occur that look vaguely like this. This does not look specifically like any of them that I can identify specificaly, but whatever it is, it probably falls into one of those categories. Because it is a silver, and because the blob appears to located primarily on one spot on the head, I suspect this is due to the fish jumping and injuring itself - perhaps hitting a boat. Another way that a lot of silvers in my area get injured and sometimes get infections is chestnut lamprey bites. If this fish had not been shot, it probably would have died of this, slowly eaten alive by the infection.
|
It may have been his death anyway. It covered almost the entire left side of its head..... inlcuding its eye. The left eye was facing me when I shot so it was not spooked cause it could not see me.:fighting0007:I should have scraped the fungus off the fish to see if it was missing a eye or had a distinct injury but I was more interested in shooting more fish.

Shooting handicapped fish. That's just mean.

NOT! :hit: Thanks for the explaination Duane. Is this something that can be transfered from fish to fish w/o injury? Oh yeah, and Happy Birthday Kyle. |
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Just would have been nice if I didnt spend 5 hours at the dmv on my birthday. Had to renew my license. But what they didnt tell me was i had to take my regular, motorcycle and all 3 or 4 cdl written tests in order to renew. Plus wait in a 4 hour line just to take the tests. What a birthday.:bash:
