This is fascinating.

RE: We got us a boat!
OK question time.
How did you decide what radius to make the front? How will you bend the sheeting around it? Inquiring minds want to know. Oh and me too! [:-] |
RE: We got us a boat!
Mark, that is so cool, just one question:
How many Vikings is it going to take to turn that thing over and get it in water. I do hope you can get it down to Rend |
RE: We got us a boat!
Are you going to put a keel on it?

RE: We got us a boat!
The front was a total guess on my part. I wanted enough radius to allow the boat to get on plane and not plow water, but not too much radius because you lose your flotation with people standing on the front. And I had to think about the troller on the front and moving water against the boat when going forward. I ran the sheeting perpendicular to the boat so it bent easily. And I didn't want to have a seem running down the middle of the boat where I'd have to put in screw backers. Every seam falls on a bulkhead. It's getting pretty big, but I can still lift it by myself. I keep checking! I'm trying to keep close watch on the weight going into this thing. I'm pretty sure the basic hull will weigh around 700lbs when glassed. So I've done the math and if this thing weighs 1500lbs rigged, it will displace almost 40,000 cubic inches, which is about 2.7" of "level" draft with about 16' of boat in the water. Every 1000lbs after that will push the boat 1.8" deeper. Of course this is all in a perfect environment and bowfishing boats are never in a perfect environment! I'm really hoping to make Rend but I'm still waiting for resin and cloth to show up. If I don't see it by Wednesday I'm in trouble!
I'll run it smooth bottom first, then if I have to I might add some keel strips later. |
RE: We got us a boat!

You have been busy! Hope you get the materials in time. ... so I can beat you. ;) |
