finaly got a airboat!!!
 

well daily i have been searching the classifieds for a airboat. finaly found one i was interested in wednesday morn. called the guy and didnt get him. we played phone tag until thursday morning. the boat was just what i was wanting. after some bickering on price and a few more calls i was on a improptou road trip to martinsville arkansas. got down there at 7pm last night. the boat was all he said it was and more. it is a 18x8 redriver boat with 30 in sides up front and 34 in back. the bottom is 80 in!!! it has 3/8 polmer on the bottom and sides. it has front steering and a light rail, 3 up top seating, walkarounds around the side of the boat, fancage and radiator. no motor, reduction, or prop. It will be awhile before i can get it going but i now have a great platform to build off of!!I am gona try to send out some pics so maybee somebody can post them up for me!!

Congrats Slim, but asI see gasoline has gone to $3.39/gal this morning, I can't help but thinkthat craft isgoing to get it's best mpg in its present state. Can't wait to see it up and running and I hear the fish on the flats are already heading for deeper water.

Your middle name Herc,LMAO I hope that is all aluminum and even at that, it's got to be real heavy. Ist time seeing one,I always thought they were a smaller boat. I have to agree with Robow on the gas prices after you get to the other side of the lake you'll probably be looking for a marina HUH! :eek:. Congrats on a great looking boat, don't mind the jabbering, I'm jealous [8D]

You can always push-pole it around the shallows until you get the rest rigged up. :D

I'm just borrowingthe metal one from the new owners for some upcoming shoots right now, but I'll be buying it as soon as I can.I'm certain 2-foot-itis will set in as soon as I sign on the dotted line.

well thanks for the compliments!! i am realy excited. i was on my way to a trailride for the weekend when we finaly got everything settled then unloaded everything and took off. as soon as we got home i got a few pics and off we went to the ride. all i could think about all weekend was my poor boat!! lol. not sure what i am gona do motor wise yet. gona take about another 5k to finish it if i go cheap and 12k to go top of the line..... bring on the overtime!!!! I may have it at rend with a troller.........

So when you say cheap and top of the line, what are the differences for us inexperienced with airboats. Just motor and prop size? ...reduction drive???

the price diffrence come from new and used. new reduction 2600, used 1500. new prop 1500-2500, used 1500-1000. new 496 motor 8000, rebuilt 383 2000.

Even at the rate you shoot fish, I'd still hate to compute the average cost per fish taken. Those carp should feel very $pecial. :D

Rob, I think it's a violation of the Man Rules to calculate thecost of venison per pound and cost of fish taken while bowfishing. ;)

everybody who has a airboat tells me that if you dont go crazy that 20-30 gallons of gas a night is normal. i was burning at least 15 in the outboard and fan before. they all like to brag that they went through 50-80 gal but that is at a world class tourney where cost is no object.

I can't wait to see that thing rigged and ready to roll. It looks like you could fight crime off of it. I think the best part is after you shoot one just pitch it behind you into the fan and you don't have to pack all those fish around!!!!! it slices, it dices......lol

Somebody had a silver asian carp jump into their fan motor sometime in the last 2 years. It instantly totalled their prop. I think that was a fan boat, but I imagine the effect would be similar.
