Drill -n- Grill roll call

The Drill and Grill is only a week away. Who's goin'?

We will be cooking fish at about 5pm. We will be set up in campground "A" site # 42. Look for the Big Fish Sign. If you are bringing a boat you will need to put your boat in the water and head East to the campground beach. LOOK FOR THE BOWFISHING BOATS AND BIG FISH SIGN. we will be having a board meeting after the fish fry. The Illinois Bowfishing 2007 Challenge will end and the winner will receive their prize $$$. We will draw for our raffle prises of a new generator and AMS Fish Hawk Bow. We will bowfish after the event till ......... This is a low pressure fun shoot.

We also have several folks who would like a ride on a bowfishing boat.

Remember that the UBI will be there as well. Tim Nuss is hosting their Region 3 event, a squirrel hunt, the same weekend. Tree rats by day, fishies by night, two cookouts, loads of good folks to B.S. with around the campfire. Oooooo, I'm gonna be soooooo tired Monday.

Hope to see a bunch of you there!

Uncle Dave, As far as I know now, Snuffy is planning on going and will be needing a partner. There is still a slight chance that I can make it but that is still questionable and if so i also would need a partner. Hope the weather holds out, suppose to rain. I'll let you know as the week goes on.

I hope you guys can make it. We should be able to find riders. We have two now and may have some UBI guys interested as well.

I'll be there to help out with setup, cooking, and whatever else needs doing. If there is space on a boat, I'll shoot some carp too, but if room is tight I'll let the others whack some instead. See ya there!

Once again... We'll be at Campground A (Mascoutin), Site #42.

Bulz is going to try shotgun squirrel hunting in the daytime. The UBI guys will be out with bows chasing squirrels.

You need a free site permit tohunt at Clinton. The office will have somebody there at 7am, 11am and 3pm on Saturday. Call first to be sure (217) 935-8722

We'll be doing the raffle drawing http://www.illinoisbowfishers.com/raffle.htmlat the cook out. Also giving the IB7C winners their money. (430.00 in prize money for the IB7C!)

See you there!

Just wanted to say thanks to Ken for getting me out on a boat shooting fish, not only my first time from a boat but then my first time at night also. I've been shootin carp for about 3 years from the bank but that night stuff is pretty cool, even if you shoot like I do. Nice to meet the rest of youfolks that were there aswell.

Thanks again...

Shane

I posted this on Silo and don't have enough time to re type it so...

"Wow. What a fun time! Hunting, fishing, B.S.ing and eating, most of my favorites. I didn't get a chance to chase any squirrels, but Bulzeye did and came back with two. I didn't hear of any others bringing a squirrel back.
Dave "Bowfisher" Randolph set-up for the fish fry but had to leave early for work. Joanne took over and did a great job fixing fish and other goodies for us and the UBI'ers (Many of us are members of both groups)
Tim Nuss had more food. No one went away hungry.
We had the drawing for our annual raffle. Dave Thompson won the DVD's, Judd Piotrowski won the grab bag, Justin Sherman won the generator and Tim Nuss won the AMS FishHawk bow. Congratulations to the winners and a huge thank you to all those who helped support us by buying tickets or donating prizes.
As the light faded, we got ready to do some night fishing. We got a visit from the local CPO who wished us luck and gave us some pointers. I'm sorry I didn't get his name, but I'm sure we'll meet again.
Three boats set out with shooters looking for a big fish. David Hughes and Debra Knoff went with us. Snuffy took Scott Kelly and Chris Engstrom on his boat. And Ken Sharp took Shane Engelkes during the day and then again that night.
In the morning we counted 65 fish. Some of us were suffering from peripheral archery disease, or that count should have been a bunch more.
Now for the most important part. I witnessed a selfless act of generosity this weekend. As I said, Dave brought food for everyone, but that's not all. He also worked hard to get a new troller wired in to his boat ...so others could use it. He had hoped to fish when he got off work but was a bit too tired. Thanks to Dave and Joanne for making it a bunch of fun for all of us, and thanks to Tim Nuss for letting us piggyback on his event."

Thanks so much to Kendall and Christine for letting me shoot from their boat. I had an awesome time!! I hope after I move to Texas, Ya'll (Texas talk) will be able to come visit and maybe shoot some gator gar or 80lb buffs. I will probably be moving mid October and hope to be rigged with a boat by next spring. I will stay in touch via this forum and keep everyone posted about what is happening down there.

RE: Drill -n- Grill roll call

I had a great time, even if I did sleep in my car with some rouge mosquitoes buzzing my ears.
I had not met many of the UBI guys before this weekend, other than the IB members that belong to both groups. It turns out that we have a lot in common with a love of archery, hunting, fishing, and eating. Heck, a bunch of them even have their own bowfishing gear already.

It was a pleasure to meet and shoot with Scott Kelly. He got to take home the deer skull with an 8 point rack we found on the shore while fishing. Enjoy. We live close enough to each other that I believe I may have found a new shooting buddy close to home. We each know some spots that the other hasn't been to yet. :)

Shane (mshane) is a great story teller, and also gave me some pointers on the easy way to skin and gut my squirrels since they were my first ones. He actually got his hands dirty and did the first one himself as an example. Then I gave the bunch a good laugh by trying the second one myself with my own dull knife. :eek:The sharp ones work a wee bit better. I think I got about 8 instant offers to borrow knives. :D
Shane, thanks for the help, and for lending me those slick small game shears. I gotta get me some of those. They make quick work of those tree rats.

Got to know Tim Nuss a little better this time since we didn't have too much time to talk at the Deer Classic show back in Feb while helping at the kid's archery range. Great to spend time with you Tim. Congrats on the new bow.

I finally got to meet Ken Sharp too (deerpredator, belt buckle, hamburgler, etc). Good guy and lots of fun to talk with. Ken, I hope youcan get those cracked limbs replaced and tuned up before the deer season starts in a few weeks.

I also gotto meet David Hughes just before they hit the water. Good luck in Texas. When you get the bowfishing scoped out down there, we'll make a road trip for some big-uns. I love Texas -born there actually. Take care, and stay in touch.

I hope to see you all again soon.

Hey Bulzeye, it was great to meet you also......I still want to see first hand how someone can take fish as big as you do standind on a bottle top! LOL......

I called Martin first thing Monday morning. They told me that there was a problem at the dipping station for the camo on the limbs. He said it was going on too thick. I e-mailed his some pics of my limbs and he confirmed it was nothing more than the camo film cracking. I asked him if they had the problem rectified and he said they did. There was absolutely no problems with him sending me out some new limbs with a thinner film on them. There on there way!

Just wanted to stop by and say a Big Thankyou to Christine and Kendall for getting me out shooting Carp with them that night. it was my 1st time night time shooting and from a boat.
I HAVE NEVER MISSED SO MANY FISH IN MY LIFE AND HAD SUCH A BLAST DOING IT
I ONLY HIT MY BOW LIMB ON THE BOAT RAILING ONCE....WoHoooooo:D

AND CHRISTINE ONLY HAD TO PULL MY SHIRT OUT OF MY LOWER CAM ONCE AFTER THE SHIRT ROLLED UP IN THE CAM AFTER THE SHOT ONCE;)

What can I say I am talented in all the wrong things[:'(]
It was great to meet you Dave and hope all goes well with your move to Texas.
Joanne, Many Thanks youdid an awesome job on the fish fry... it was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to see you made it over here ScottK. Welcome aboard. We'll get together for sure in the spring if not before. I'll make sure to keep you in the loop when we break the ice at DesPlaines conservation area, among other places.

Ken, glad to hear it's just the finish on your bow that had the prob. you'll end up retuning anyway, but now you have a free spare set of limbs. Kudos to Martin for good customer service.

I still want to see first hand how someone can take fish as big as you do standind on a bottle top!
That's about what it feels like sometimes, and it does get interesting. Keeps me from falling asleep on slow days. :D

Deb,

HAD TO PULL MY SHIRT OUT OF MY LOWER CAM
I didn't hear about that. That's funny. One of the many bowfishing perils.

Funny how that works. The first time I went fishing with a bow I never hit a fish. And couldn't wait to go back.

Yes, Joanne does so many great thingsfor us.

Hey, you had some great shots. (like the perfectunicorn carp):D

Whether your talent is wrong or right.. I'm hoping some of it rubs off on me... 'specially if I can get a buck like this. ;)

Scott, it was great to meet you! Any time your down here in Central IL, let us know. We can hit Clinton, Shelbyville, Evergreen or Dawson Lake.

Hamburgler, I'm proud of you. You may still want to get that GPS though. [8D]

David, you're a heck of a shot. If you weren't going to Texas we'd be trying to get you as part of bowfishing Team CIRFCU.

Hey Christine, Do you still want the lease on that land in Springfield? I am going to switch the lease to my buddies name and you can pay me the $150.00 for my half. He doesn't hunt a lot and will be doing firearm in Champaign. The lease is for a max of 2 people at a time so If you were going to bring someone with you, you would have to make sure that Bill (my current hunting buddy) is not going to be there. I have killed around 20 deer in this spot and the biggest grossed 161 7/8". I would recommend 4 wheel drive or an atv. I have a 2005 kawasaki Bayou 250 for sale if you are interested. The ground is in flood plain and you can shoot carp and gar in the creek!

By the way, what is team CEFCU?
